Brook's P.O.V
I jot down every word the professor says as he explains the steps of child development. I can't help by being a tiny bit distracted by the eyes burning into the back of my head.
I finally whip my head back and come face to face with a preppy boy dressed in khakis, a stripped collared polo, and Sperries. "I-I'm sorry but, pleaseee stop making my head burn from your stare." I surprise myself with my confident tone.
"I was right, your face is as beautiful as the back of your head." I blush at his compliment. I stare at his features. golden brown hair is gelled to perfection, and his khakis perfectly ironed along with a green collared polo.
"I'm Brook." I respond. shyness is no where to be found.
"I'm Liam." He flashes a bright smile as I turn back around to start note taking once again.

After class as I walk out, Liam stops me.
"Wanna go grab a coffee or something?" he says.
"U-uh s-s-ure." I say, my social awkwardness creeping back in. "I-I'm not good at talking th-though." I warn
"I'm not very good myself." He says, easing my nerves.
I smile as we walk out together. "There's a cafe just around campus if you want to go there."
"t-that's good." I say thinking about Niall there and about the last time I saw him. Like what the fuck was that? Is it just an act for work or something? But, what about him approaching me at the bench? My confidence is rising once again. I'm feisty in my mind but not with my voice.
We walk for a few minutes in silence when he finally starts talking.
"So what are you majoring in?" He asks
"I keep switching but, I'd like to do something in the medical field. Preferably pediatrics How about you?"
"I'm into science, earth science to be specific. I don't know what career I'm choosing exactly but, it's gonna be something along those lines." He responds
"That's interesting. But why were you in a child development class then?" I smile politely
"Not totally. But, I honestly don't know. It sounded interesting?" I laugh at his response.
"Where are you from?" it's my turn to ask a question.
"Wolverhampton in England. How about you?"
"Your accent." I point out the obvious. When he first talked to me I heard a slight accent . "I'm from a little town in North Carolina. It's pretty boring over there but, now I'm here so it's better and there's a lot more going on. I've always craved adventure.
He laughs as he opens the door to the coffee shop. "Sometimes quiet is good though. Wolverhampton is pretty quiet and little too."
I immediately spot Niall at the counter and he smiles at me. I glare back as we wait in the line. "Well I don't have a lot of people I know there anymore." I hope he doesn't push anything. Bad memories flood that state.
He changes the subject most likely noticing my uncomfortable shift. "What do you want to order?" He asks as we approach the counter. I spot my drink already prepared on the counter. My annoyance rises towards Niall that I'm feeling feisty and wanna do something different.
"I'll have a passion fruit iced tea sweetened." I say to Niall. He looks surprised almost a sorry expression covers his face.
Liam orders and we sit at a table closest to the counter which was not my choice after bickering over who should pay. He's such a gentleman.
"I'm having a little party at my frat house tomorrow if you'd like to come?" He questions
"Well I have a lot of studying to do and note taking and-"
"Just for an hour or two?" He interrupts "How about you give me your number and you can think about it and then text or call me when you make up your mind?"
"Fine I'll think about it." I smile as he hands me his phone and I hand him mine to exchange numbers.

After saying our goodbyes and me thanking him, he leaves the coffee shop. Just as I'm about to leave Niall approaches me. I pray that this conversation will end quickly.
"Hi." He waves awkwardly.
"Hi." I respond quickly avoiding eye contact.
"I'm sorry for the other day." Well that was quick.
"For what?" I pretend I don't know what he's talking about.
"What do you mean?"
"I get it and I'm used to it I honesty don't give a shit." I lie
"Yes you do. I saw your reaction."
"Look I don't even know you and you don't know me. Leave me the fuck alone. I don't care! I don't fucking care!" With that I head out the door leaving Niall's jaw on the floor.

Ugh, being pissed off I walk down the path to the woods and to the calming body of water. I dip my toes in and relief washes through my body. I don't get why he thinks I care so much. I don't know him and he doesn't know me! I text Liam saying I'll be at his party. It can't be that bad can it? Only a few hours, I can study all tonight and tomorrow afternoon. I text Liam again:
what should i wear?
I get a response as soon as it sends:
just a casual outfit. girls usually wear a pencil skirt or something.
I take his advice and head out of the woods and walk to my car to go to the shops off campus.
