My black combat boots step confidently into the great hall. Wide blue archers are above me and white tiles below me. I was Summoned to the great hall by my assessor, he was a great master in combat and he managed to teach me most of what he knew to prepare me for the graduation ceremony. The ceremony was yesterday, and believe I did the best in my class.
I climbed up the glass staircase into the assessors study and opened the wooden door.
"Well it's good to know at least one of my students can show up on time!" He said, obviously tiered of being held up at work till midnight. I sit down in the seat in front of him.
"Congratulations you passed graduation and you must start work immediately, your first assignment is to have a look at two suspicious twins that might have the genetically pure cells to be mutants." He says giving me a file with a picture of two Chinese girls on the front.
"What do you want me to do with the girls if they do turn out to be mutants?"
"Kill them"
I shift my weight in the seat, I feel extremely uncomfortable taking on this task. I was trained to fight, not kill. As far as I'm concerned, mutants are not that much of a problem. Mutants are a rarity and haven't proved much harm.
"Unless this is too much of an ask for you to do this? In which case you will need to leave the academy. Do you accept the task?"
...no...
"Yes sir"
"Good" he flashes me a wicked smile,
"You, always were my favourite student Emma, you never let me down."
There is silence while I flick through the girls files. Their names are Brenna and Keelin, they both do gym and ballet. So far the don't seem like much of the threat.
"Sir, how will I find them?"
"My daughter will meet you at the train station when you leave, she will do this task with you and if the mission proves a success then you will be able to work alone next time. My daughter knows all the details and will give them to you on the train."
I can't believe I wasn't trusted to do the task bye myself! I work my ass off and I get put in a joint mission. I abruptly get out of the seat and stop bye the door,"what is her name?
"Charlotte"
I take a files and leave the room.
