*rustling*
"Are you okay? Why aren't you asleep?" Y/n's wife asked, still sleeping as it was in the middle of the night."I can't sleep. Don't worry about me, I'm fine. I will go to my office room for awhile." Y/n said as he got out of bed and walked to his own office room.
There, Y/n sat and slowly took out a metal box from his drawer. He put it on his table and opened it.
He looked inside the box and took out it's contents. Letters... photos...
===========================================
"Gaeul, let's play!" A young Y/n shouted as he knocked on her family's door. Gaeul's mother opened the door and Gaeul ran out energetically.
"Let's go!" Gaeul said, as she ran first to the playground while Y/n followed soon after.
They played for an hour or two before their parents called them for dinner.
"It's time for us to go back already..." Gaeul pouted, as she and Y/n walk back home.
"Let's hang out tomorrow after school!" Y/n said, Gaeul nodding happily. Then they both hold hands while walking back home smiling.
The next day, after school ended. Their parents came to fetch them and Y/n asked for permission to go to Gaeul's house and hang out.
When Y/n's parent nodded, Gaeul and Y/n cheered happily, jumping up and down.
They would spend their free time at each other's home everyday or else playing at the playground. Watching cartoons and doing homework together.
When they reached 9 years old, Y/n was with Gaeul at her house, they had their first kiss. Y/n remembers it fondly, always smiling when thinking of the memory.
Y/n was holding hands with Gaeul, when he confessed to Gaeul. "Gaeul! I like you!" He said, smiling as they were watching television.
"I like you too!" Gaeul admitted. Then Y/n leaned is for a kiss with Gaeul. Both of them smiling after the kiss.
"I will be your boyfriend!" Y/n said happily.
"And I will be your girlfriend!" Gaeul replied, with a bright smile.Soon, Y/n and Gaeul will walk to school while they held hands everyday. They are basically inseparable, being a cute couple that their parents would smile and tease when seeing them together.
However, things changed when they turned 15... Gaeul had to move abroad due to her father being in the military and was being relocated.
They both cried sadly when knowing that they had to be separated.
On the day of the Gaeul's flight, Y/n send her off and they both shared a last kiss. With a pinky promise, they promised to send letters and photos to each other.
When the first mail from Gaeul came, Y/n was so happy to receive it. He carefully took the letter out and read it. In the package, there were photos of Gaeul in her new room and how she's trying to settle in her new environment.
In the letter, Gaeul wrote how was it in her new home. She missed him a lot and that it was difficult for her to adapt as she has been living in Korea her whole life.
The letter ended with "I love you."
Y/n wiped his tears as he finished reading the letter that his most beloved girlfriend sent him.
He would write back, showing how things were continuing in the neighbourhood and that he was doing well in school.
This would continue for years, them maintaining a long distance relationship and sending each other love letters and photos.
One day, Gaeul would send Y/n a letter that he couldn't forget, the best ever letter he gotten. She announced to Y/n that she will be returning back with her family to Korea to attend university with Y/n.
Gaeul even wrote in the letter that she wished they would get married as soon as they graduate. They both couldn't wait to meet each other in person and be in each other's embrace.
When Gaeul finally arrived back in Korea, she used the public phone to call Y/n and informed him that she had landed and couldn't wait to meet him.
"We will be hugging each other in 3 hours' time!" Gaeul said excitedly through the phone.
That day... Y/n waited outside the house as he waited excitedly for Gaeul to come back home.
==========================================
Y/n opened the door and looked at his sleeping wife. He looked at her and smiled weakly... He entered the room and softly closed the door.
He laid down on the bed besides his wife and looked towards her for awhile before looking at the ceiling and closing his eyes.
============================================
Soon, 4 hours had gone past and Gaeul wasn't anywhere to be seen.
"It might be the traffic..." Y/n tried to calm himself down.
The sun has set and Gaeul still had not arrived. Y/n's feelings has shifted from excited to anxious.
Y/n remembered the time. He waited... 4 hours... then 8 hours... a day... 3 days... a week....
Y/n was practically crying and dying to know what happened to Gaeul. There was no news of Gaeul at all.
Then, he sees Gaeul's family moving into the home they used to stay before they had to relocate.
Y/n runs out of his home and asked her family, "Where's Gaeul!?!?" Y/n asked, almost crying.
Then he was hit with the heartbreaking news.
Gaeul had died....
She died in a car crash on the highway while she was in a taxi on the way back to him.
Y/n collapsed and cried on the spot. He couldn't believe it.
=========================================
Y/n opened his eyes and looked at the woman beside him. It took him years to try and get over Gaeul, the girl that was his true love.
He never got over her...
Y/n had loved other woman... get married... even with children...
But no one ever came close to replacing Gaeul in his heart...
He would dream about her even now and then.
'It's been 30 years... Gaeul. I still love you. I miss you so much.'
