Erica was in the living room bickering with her mother from the kitchen, she had turned on the TV as requested by her mother. The screen flashed as the News station announced it was going to make its special report. Erica plopped down on the couch and watched the TV as the lady began to speak.

"All-star skateboarder, Max Mayfield has been hospitalized these past 2 days. Sources say she has fractured her right arm and sprained her left ankle. Fans all over the globe are wishing her a speedy and safe recovery." The newswoman took a break before she spoke on the topic again.
"Here's more to the story. This Tuesday Max had been competing in North Carolina for a best-run score. She had just started to get to the end of her run when she attempted to perform a trick on the pole. Max lost her footing on the uneven pole and fell off, sliding down the smaller ramp."

"Oh, shit" Erica managed to say as clips from her crash were played. Her mother heard her and rushed over telling her to watch her language. "Erica! Lang- oh my god!" She quickly grabbed a seat next to Erica to watch.

*camera cuts to the skate executive who planned the competition*
He walked up to the podium and began to speak. "We have investigated this accident and found the matter as follows, Max Mayfield will be granted some of the money from the damage we have caused. The pole was loose from the last couple of runs, as some of our staff did not complete their safety check as required after each competitor. We've taken that matter into our own hands. MADMAX will have this record set to not affect her overall grade score as this is our fault."
The man stepped back from the podium and avoided questions that were being asked to him. The screen faded back to the female reporter who continued to speak.
"At the looks of it, Basketball player, Lucas Sinclair was called over from Max's older brother Billy. Rumor around states that the skater and he are in a relationship but we still have yet to see any evidence. Her friends and supervisor state that "they all (meaning the 6 of them) have grown up together and stay close." As are the words from Jane when she was asked a question yesterday on the matter of Lucas and Max."

Erica looked up at her mom and gave a concerned face. She really hoped Max was okay. Her mother looked at her with a saddened face, she suggested to Erica that they start preparing some things for her when she gets back. Erica agreed and the two of them set up her own room. Her mother placed some pillows down and the end of the bed for her ankle so they could keep it elevated.
Mrs. Sinclair made sure that they had ice packs for her if she had any pains and to keep the swelling down. She understood the circumstances she was in, the last thing she needed was the press looking at her son's and his girlfriend's relationship status. She sighed as was referring to the last part that the newswoman said about the topic.
Erica was sad that Max couldn't skate for a while, in fact, everyone was. Max hated it. The one really good thing she enjoyed, was taken away. But she had no choice but to accept the fact, it was the doctor's orders. Though the doctors did say that she could skate again once her ankle was healed. So just a few weeks of longing to skate, not as bad as she had imagined. Max still dreaded the temptation though, at this point, it was a habit.
Max stood up from her hospital bed, testing her legs again from the past few hours. She and Billy had signed the release forms and were going to make their way back to Hawkins. The rest of the Party had left yesterday, taking a few of their belongings with them as Billy's car didn't have that much space. As mandatory, she left the hospital in a wheelchair. Billy made sure she was comfy in the passenger seat and then they were on their way.
"Are you hungry?" Billy asked as he tilted his head in her direction.
"If it's hospital food then no, but if it's actual food then yes" Max looked up at him with a smile knowing she was in good hands the rest of the trip.
Billy found a nice local burger joint around the edge of the state. They both ate, to say the least Max was very happy with the first bite she took. They both finished and were on their way back home.

Max fell asleep most of the drive, though it was a little hard when her arm is still in a grave amount of pain. She had awoken and stretched, she had asked Billy if he had an estimate of when they'd get home. He said somewhere around an hour and a half. Max nodded and picked up her phone.

Max looked at her phone with confusion. Sure with her being in the news lately, there were sure to be articles or segments about her. But she normally had her phone turn the notifications off, she was intrigued, to say the least. She clicked the tab, and it took her to Lucas's page with a post he made.

Max was very happy at this, she smiled at the words he wrote. Though she wasn't sure if the xoxo and the heart were "hints" she will take what she can get. The fact that they discussed something like that was good, but she now realized she hasn't even said anything about the rumors or allegations floating around the media. "Whatever, I'll do it soon" was what she thought as she hit the like button and retweeted his tweet.
