Max didn't have a social media account on apps like Instagram or Twitter, But El convinced her to create one because she would probably get updates about certain topics or skating information fairly quickly. She created her profile and it looked something close to this.

------------

Max 🛹

@MADMAX

Pro Skateboarder - just one of those people - "totally tubular"

------------

It was her profile and description, it was short but easy. El told her to make just one tweet about her next competition. She didn't have to be active at all on the account, but it's just there. El had shown her the ropes and told her to check the Trending page. It was on a few topics such as her next competition, something involving the government and...

"Of course, at this point why am I not surprised!" Max groaned as she clicked on the #. There were a bunch of tweets about the Draft from last night mostly a bunch of sports centers about the picks and the NBA season. And then it was her and Lucas.

she read a tweet with a short video of her and Lucas walking off the stage and when they hugged each other. She reads the caption, 'does anyone else think that there is something else going on between these two?? Like, they seemed cautious and close'

Max sighed, she knew that El was right and now she would be in the main view for at least a week! And don't bother with interviews from the press once she gets to the competition next week as well. She tried to calm down and not let it get to her head.

Billy walked into her room and reminded her to start packing for their flight back home. He paused and asked if she was ok.

------------

"Hey Maxy, are you alright? you seem out of it." He asked with concern.

She sighed, "yeah I'm just frustrated with the media. They all think Lucas and I are together just because of interaction." Max stated in defeat.

Billy knew about their past and it occurred to him that she was being very idiotic about her relationship with Lucas.  "Look I know that I rarely get into your business like this, but don't you think it's about time you tell yourself and admit that you're being stupid? It's so obvious Maxine, just tell him! He's a very loyal guy."

Max's face flushed and she paused, "Look your 22! soon you'll be too old just let yourself love and be loved. If anything you deserve it." Billy smiled, he knew he was right and he felt good that he finally talked some sense into this girl.

She walked around the hotel room collecting the last bit of items and placed them in her suitcase. She zipped it up and sat on her bed, she felt guilty. Max knew Billy was right, she felt like she did something bad to Lucas. First of all, she hasn't been honest with him, or in fact any of the party throughout the last 4 years.

She knew what she needed to do but it would take a lot of talking. She sat up and walked to the other room in which El stayed. Max knocked on the slightly open door. El looked up and told her to come in.

------------

"Hey, Max what's up?" She questioned the redhead.

Max sighed and took a deep breath, she'll need it to get through all the times she'll want to blurt out all her problems. All the miss-haps, from Neil to high school. Hell even if she breaks down her walls and cry. Max never cried in front of her friend's course, but deep down...all she wanted was someone to actually talk to and care for her. She acted all tough, and even though she was, she also wasn't.

"Look I know now isn't all the right time, because we leave on our flight soon. But I need to just tell you and rant." Max admitted to her. Damnit she could already feel her eyes glistening. She hated feeling weak.

"Sure, is it a talk that I need to give input on or just listen?" El asked in a gentle tone.

Max nodded and took a seat across from El. She didn't want to have a panic attack but she did. Max had gotten through most of it about their life back in Hawkins and Neil and she took a moment to pause and give time for El to absorb her information. El's face was saddened when she got to the part about college and her regrets about the party. She meant well but it was hard, always for Max.

Max tried to speak about her and Lucas but nothing came out. At this point, she was crying and struggling to breathe normally. "BILLY!!" El called loudly.

"Yeah? What's up? You ca-MAX!" Was what he said from down the hall and into the room as he turned from the doorway.

"Max, Max...Max! Just breathe I've gotcha. You're safe." Billy looked at El with a questioning face.

"She was telling me about...everything. She was having a panic attack, she got through most of the story, and then she paused. She tried to talk about something and then cried. Billy, I've never seen her cry..." El admits to Billy whilst explaining Max's situation.

By the end of the day, all three of them were in the car on the way to the Byers. But El still didn't know what Max was trying to say to her back in the room. She had an idea but she didn't want to push it. She knew that Max was trending, trending in the media, and trending into an emotional wreck.

She was scared for her. She knew what she needed to do and she was going to get Max up and over her walls...eventually.

Y'all this was fun to write, again sorry for the late post. I wanted to show more of Max's mental status. I feel like she would still have some issues with her family and whatnot.

Please keep an eye out for the next chapter 🫣
