14| Friends

Chaitanya-

"Ruhi, where are you?"

"Just 2 mins."

"Okay!" I hung up the call. And there she was parking her car in the parking zone.

"Gosh! Ruhi, why are you so late today?" Dhruv asked.

"Apologies! Actually, due to the sudden call of the client, traffic, etc. this all resulted in my late arrival." She puffed while talking.

"Okay, let's go in." I drew their attention towards me.

"Oh, yeah!" they both shouted in excitement.

Here we three came at the famous BKC restaurant, to meet my friends. For the first time I'll be introducing Ruhi to them.

"Hey! Hiii!" Ritvik, Zain and Abeer greeted us with a bright smile.

"Hello!" I greeted back.

We five i.e me, Dhruv, Ritvik, Zain and Abeer were a group back in the college. We used to participate in many activities together. They too knew about Kaylee's incident.

"We thought, that we will be meeting a sad, psycho lover but it seems that he is very much happy." Abeer joked. I glared at him. Noticing me he kept quiet.

"Hello, everyone! I'm Ruhi, Ruhi Subramaniam-" she introduced herself, but I interrupted. "Ruhi, this is Ritik, Zain and Abeer. We were good friends in college. And everyone, here she is Ruhi."

"Hello! "They all greeted her.

"So, are you both happy with each other?" Ritik asked.

"Yeah, I mean I'm comfortable around him but I don't know whether he feels good around me." Ruhi said with a small smile. I felt somewhere good that she is happy with me. I just nodded when everyone looked at me.

"So, who proposed first?" Abeer asked excitedly.

"Well, we are just husband and wife on paper. Rather we are good friends," I said, averting myself from all. As I knew what the reaction of my friends would give.

"What? Ruhi are you fine with this all? I mean you both look good together." For the first time Zain spoke. Usually, he doesn't like to poke his nose in other's matters. But he was truly concerned about Ruhi.

Suddenly Ruhi's phone rang. She excused herself while everyone was glaring at me. Soon she came and hurriedly gathered her belongings, and uttered, "Apologies, but I guess I have to leave as my team needs me, right now."

"Is there any serious problem?" Dhruv asked.

"I don't know".

"Inform me if you need anything." I uttered grimly.

She nodded and left.

While the other four narrowed their eyes, throwing the cold draggers at me.

"Kaylee is your past Chayi. Don't be stuck in the past. We all knew about Kaylee from the beginning. Whenever we used to show you the truth, you always used to defend her." Ritik said sternly.

"I don't know, if you notice but now we can see the real Chaitanya Reddy, who used to be concerned about his family and always happy about everything. And guess what, this must be because of Ruhi." Abeer said.

"Exactly, I even tried to make him realize but he is still adamant about that stupid contract which they signed." Dhruv sighed in frustration.

I was feeling frustrated hearing the same thing from everyone. Clenching my fist, I banged loudly on the table.

Everybody was baffled by my sudden outburst.

"What's with Kaylee now? She is not even in my life now. And why the hell do you all always talk about Ruhi? I don't love her man. We have this contract. After a few months, we both will be separated. So, don't talk about this again. And I request you to not talk about this to Ruhi too. I don't want to be under any burden." I furiously said and left from there.

Sighing in frustration, I kicked the wheel of the car. I don't know why but I called Ruhi and sternly asked her to come home.

Ruhi-

Thanks to Kunal! Or else today I would be doomed for the good today. I was seriously afraid of the questions they were throwing at me. As soon as Kunal called me, I was at ease.

"Hey!" Kunal greeted.

"What's up?"

"Long time, no see! Well as per your plan, we will be leaving after next two months. Therefore, be quick and tell me the place, I'll be booking the tickets for all."

"Okay! I'll be updating you in two days." I hung up the call after chit-chatting a bit.

But soon I got a call from my office that there were some mistakes in the system. So, to check that I left hurriedly, to avoid the blunders.

After an hour, everything was fine. I was just about to leave; I got a call from Chaitanya. I was nervous to attend his call but at last I talked to him. In a stern voice he asked me to come home. I was worried about him. What might have happened when I left? He didn't ever talk to me with such a stern voice. Is there something wrong? Questions flooded in my mind while I was driving the car towards the home.

As soon as I entered the room, I saw him silently sitting on the couch, looking down. "What happened?" Due to his different behavior, I couldn't help and ended up asking him.

As I asked him, he glared at me angrily. I gulped down upon seeing him very angry for the first time. His eyes were looking intensely dangerous. He got up from the couch and furiously took the long stride towards me. I was frightened but didn't show him my expression. But my legs were automatically moving back.

He seized my arms harshly. I shrieked in the pain. His hold on my arms was so tight that I'm sure that there will be his print on my arms tomorrow.

"What are you doing Chaitanya? Leave me." I muttered in pain.

"Shut your mouth! Because of you I had to face all accusations. Why did you meet my friends?

"Excuse me? It was you who requested me to come with you. Or else I would have never met any of your friends." I stated the fact.

"Ruhi Subramaniam! It was Dhruv who insisted me to bring you along with me. Never in my life, I will try to do something which makes you happy. I hate when you are around me. I feel disgusted by your presence. Why the hell do you always want to interfere in my life? Don't you have some shame. You married a man who already had a girlfriend and sometimes I think that you are the reason that Kaylee is away from me!" he roared.

"If you hate me this much, then why did you always show concern? And about the shame, we both agreed to our condition. That day as a human I was there with you to console you. I never intended to make you away from Kaylee." I said with a lump in my throat.

He squeezed my arms more tightly. And sternly he said, "Ruhi, stay away from me. I cannot tolerate any tantrums. Just go to hell!" As he loosened my arms, and pushed me away in a jerk. I stumbled because of the sudden force. He went to his closet and took his clothes. He was about to leave and suddenly he came back and looked at me clenching his fist.

Tears rolled on my cheeks. I tried to control my emotions but the tears were unable to stop. It felt like someone stabbed my heart so cruelly. I felt that my self esteem was shattered hearing him. I never thought he had bottled his feelings to this level.

Our eyes met for a second and I soon averted my eyes, not able to hold myself. To calm myself, I went to the garden to get some fresh air. His words were ringing again and again in my ears. The more it echoed, the more it made me angrier. I took a seat near a tree and started to think about sorting this chaos.
