3| Marriage Talk in the Town!

Chaitanya-

Next morning at breakfast, "Chaitanya! Tomorrow we are gonna visit Subramaniam to get you married to their daughter." My father announced.

"But I like Kaylee! I won't get married to anyone other than Kaylee."

"Fine! I'm gonna dismiss you from the position of CEO and you better find some place to stay. If you marry Kaylee, Mark my words, I'm gonna sign all properties to charity trust."

"Whattt? Nooo! You can't do this to me. I worked hard to get this position and simply because of marriage you can't waste my hardwork by signing to charity."

This is ridiculous!

"Either get married to Ruhi Subramaniam or see getting your hardwork destroyed." Announcing in authority, my father got up and went to his room.

Arghhhhh! Why does this have to be so complicated? Why?

Sighing, I went to meet Kaylee and narrated the whole incident.

"Baby! I know you worked hard for this position. You absolutely deserve this position-"

"No Kaylee I don't wanna get married to anyone else rather than you!" I interrupted her.

"What about contract marriage? Why don't you sign a contract with that girl? After a year you divorce her and then we will love together forever."

"No! It's not easy. I don't think she will agree and I can't risk it."

"Baby business is everything about risk. Let's try."

I sighed.

Somewhere I'm feeling that this is a great idea but will that girl agree?

Let's see.

Ruhi-

Next day, during breakfast, my mother and father were discussing something. I heard them whispering something about me.

Seeing this I got annoyed, and asked them to tell me what they were discussing. If I was calm then I wouldn't be married today! And then, my father turned towards me and said, "Ruhi, I know your perspective about your life. You always liked to be yourself, and I always respected your every decision and choices. But now you are a grown up lady. You should get married and settle with your family-" I interrupted him, "That means I am not your family. If I'm a burden, then why did you call me here? I was happy in Bangalore. I never thought that you would say this to me. And from the beginning I have said that I won't get married and my priority is always my profession and then family. I will be leaving today as I got a call from my office." I got up in the middle of the breakfast and without looking back I went into my room. I was so irritated, that I banged the door loudly and started packing all my stuff. After packing, I heard a knock.

Ignoring that I changed my clothes and glanced at my room, so that I don't miss anything. When I came out with my bags, my father stopped me. Very affectionately he held my hand, and in a broken voice he said, " Ruhi, I never meant to hurt you. I always thought about you and the things which are best for you. You are not just my daughter, friend or family, but you are beyond everything. Getting married means having a partner. You will be living with your man, who will take your responsibility carefully. I'm getting old now. And I don't know how much days I'm going to live . But it's my last wish to see you happily settled with your partner. Please Ruhi, accept my request."

I saw my dad for the first time being hurt and standing teary in front of me. Not able to deny I accepted his request but by a condition. I agreed by saying that I will personally inspect everything about the man who will be coming to see me, as well as you won't interrupt if I ask or put any condition in front of him or his family. After thinking for a minute, he agreed.

"Ruhi, you can put forth any condition but remember that he is my old friend, and they will be investing in our business if this marriage takes place. This investment is necessary for the expansion of our business. You have to promise me that no matter what you won't deny this alliance. You can put forth any condition but this marriage would take place."

I sighed listening to him.
