Hospital Visit

Undyne sits in the waiting room, texting Papyrus, 'Hey Pap, probably going to have to find a different time to hang out. Ran into someone who's pretty hurt while on my walk with Alphys, want to make sure they're ok before leaving.'

Papyrus checks his phone, working on replanting some flowers with Toriels help. "Aw phony, Undyne's canceling our plans for the day. She was just on a walk through the woods with Alphys.

Sans looks up from reading with Little Knight. "Did they find a Silva Medal?" he says, smiling. Toriel chuckles a bit, with Knight looking between her and Sans.

Papyrus re-reads the message a couple of times, pausing, "...Oh, she found someone who's really hurt."

Sans looks worried at this as Papyrus sends a text reading 'What happened, do you think?'

Undyne types, sending 'I don't know for sure, but with how jumpy and scared they were, I think they were in a fight. When I got close, they got really scared. I don't think they heard me approaching. I did notice they look...different. Kind of like how you've described that new 'friend' of yours, Knight. I have a feeling I'm going to have to write a report on this, whether or not they recover because they're not from around here, and how I found them is...in an odd situation.'

Papyrus sends an "Ok. I hope they can recover ok'

Undyne replies 'I hope so too. I'll let you know when the doctors tell me more. In the meantime, I need to work on that report. It'll be better to have a start on it and not need it after all than to need it and be behind.' Papyrus sends a thumbs up and returns to gardening as Undyne calls and talks to on-duty officers, putting together a rudimentary timeline and report draft.

After nearly half an hour, Undyne sends Pap a picture of the vessel in a hospital bed, recovering before calling him "I'd mentioned this guy looks kinda like that buddy of yours earlier, and now I'm really seeing a similarity. I sent you a picture of them, could you show that Knight it and tell me what they have to say?"

"OK," Papyrus looks at the picture, then shows Little Knight it, who freezes. After a minute or so of tense silence, they sign "V-O-I-D" and nothing else.

"Erm...well, I showed them the picture and they just said 'Void.' I'm not sure what that means but they seem to recognize the one in the picture."

"Good to know. They just started waking up now, it seems. I'm just outside their room now." Undyne says, hanging up and watching the vessel stir some, opening their unbandaged eye. They chirp quietly, trying to move but unable to do so from the light restraints put in place as a precaution. They chirp again in a panicked manner as they try to get free. Undyne steps in, talking while putting a hand on them to keep them from potentially hurting themself. "Hey, you're gonna be alright, you're safe here."

The vessel makes a chittering sound like a bird before managing to speak, saying "Wh...heere.....I..?"

Undyne pauses, processing what they said. "Are you asking where you are? We're in the hospital." She pauses before asking "What's your name?"

"V..vvo...vi...do..." they say with immense difficulty.

"Uhh, I don't quite get what you were trying to say there. Vevido?" Undyne questions, the vessel shaking their head 'no' in response. Undyne pauses for a moment before saying,g "How about we spell it out? I'll go through the alphabet, and you make a sound when I say the right letter. That sounds good?" They chirp, nodding, so Undyne starts going through the alphabet, pausing after each letter in case they need a moment to process.

"O..." she slowly says, wondering if the vessel actually understood "..V..." they chirp right after this. "So, your name starts with a v? Alright then." She continues with this before they chirp again. "V-O," she says, continuing until she gets the name spelled out as "V-O-I-D." She goes to continue, and the vessel cuts her off before she can even say 'a'

"So, your name is Void?" they nod. "Hmm..." she texts Papyrus reading

'Asked what their name is. It's Void, like what you say Knight said.'

Meanwhile, Sans got Toriel to keep Little Knight busy, talking about fun facts while sitting in the shade of a tree. He and Papyrus went inside to talk about the implications of what Knight had signed.

"That's no mistake or misunderstanding, they spelled out the word. So, what are they doing here, exactly?" Sans says in a low voice.

"I don't know, maybe it's a coincidence. The vessel's name could be Void for all we know. They know words for things like Void, yet they made the conscious decision to spell it out like one would spell out a name."Papyrus responds

"I highly doubt that's the case. Saying Void is uncommon for a name is putting it lightly, and that's even with their..shadowy appearance. Realistically, what are the chances of that?"

"I don't know-" Papyrus stops as he hears his phone ding with a text.

He checks it, Sans getting visibly frustrated. "We're having a serious conversation here. Why are you checking your phone?"

"It's from Undyne, she says she asked what their name is." As Papyrus is talking, Undyne sends another text reading

'They really struggle with talking, and according to the tests done by the doctors, they seem to be blind. The way I got their name is by going through the alphabet to spell their name out. I'm sending a video of the process so you can see what I mean by this'

Papyrus continues, saying "They said their name is Void. Spelled it out."

"They did?" Sans asks doubtfully.

Yeah, she sent this video" Papyrus says, playing the video and showing Sans. After they watch the video, both of them think quietly for a few minutes.

Sans thinks back on the night before, remembering Knight saying they had seen another vessel like them. Making a decision, he clears his throat saying "Last night I woke up and Knight was gone out on a walk again. I followed them out, and they told me they had run into another vessel. It looked like the two had started a fight of some kind because they had their nail out ready to attack.

"Did they really? but...wouldn't another vessel be their sibling? That's so odd, why would they fight?" Papyrus says, perplexed at this new information.

"I don't know. I wasn't there for it, and I didn't see this other vessel. They were long gone when I had caught up with Knight. I don't know if this is because I was there or not, but they didn't seem interested in trying to find them either though. I have a feeling they were just defending themselves, and I don't think they really wanted to fight the other vessel."

"hmm...." Papyrus paces a little, thinking quietly.
