Chapter 52, Bring it on!

Thor took me home once I could stand on my own two feet. He would have carried me, but the medic insisted I wouldn't leave his care until I was well enough to walk away myself.

The wardrobe was open, Loki's suitcase and some of his clothes were missing. He had left most of his things behind, he had packed light.

I knew Heimdall wouldn't be able to see him, and that the Templars' scryers and augurs would not be able to find him either. But I could not just let him go. Not like that.

I rang Cedric, who had neither seen nor heard from him. While Cedric was Loki's friend, he had never been his confidant. He put his own feelers out though, just in case someone heard anything about Loki.

I rang Wolf and Boone. They were resourceful and had found him for me before. They promised to keep an ear on the ground.

I rang any agent I had ever met, hoping against hope someone, somewhere knew where Loki was. But I knew that if Loki didn't want to be found, I would never find him.

On a whim, I even rang Helen Bannerman and the kids on the island. Although how they could possibly help I didn't know either.

But life is strange, and it was Danny Dufresne who was the first to ring me back.

"I was flying my drone over the island, you know the one with the camera on it Loki got me for Christmas, I promise I was not using it to spy on the girls, really.." Danny began.

"Danny!"

"I wasn't! Anyway, that is not what this was about. I saw Loki going into the maintenance tunnels under the bypass. You know, where Beaumont, where Loki I mean, had his hideout!"

"When?" I asked, my heart thumping in my ears.

"Ten seconds ago!"

I didn't even bother putting a coat on or explaining anything to Thor for that matter. Before Danny had hung up the phone I was already out of the house.

It didn't take me long to traverse Agartha or run to the tunnels. Loki's car was still parked in front, and the door was open.

The security system had been disabled a long time ago.

"Loki? Loki!"

I looked in the storage room he had used as a hideout what seemed an eternity ago. The room where I had first seen Loki, where I first heard his voice. In a way, this was where it had all begun.

Would this be where it all ended as well?

The Templars had ransacked the place, trying to learn anything they could about Loki after I defeated him. I didn't think there was anything he could possibly have come back for.

Loki was standing with his back to me. He wasn't wearing the black armour anymore, he was dressed in a black suit and tie, wearing his long black coat over it. There was a suitcase by his feet, and a large bulging bag that I presumed had the armour and horned circlet in it. He was taking paperwork out of a small safe in the wall that I was certain hadn't been there before. A secret compartment!

"Loki?" I asked softly.

Loki turned around.

"Danny?" he asked.

I nodded wordlessly.

"Giving him that drone was a mistake. Then again, I should have shifted shape."

Loki's eyes met mine.
