"Hello?" Responded the woman on the other side of the line. Kelly's eyebrows knitted in confusion before realising Smith had given her a fake number. She shut her eyes in disappointment, thinking she should have verified the number instead of trusting him. The blame fell on her but she didn't lose hope, not at least yet.

"Uh, hi..." She was trying to cook a proper sentence in her mind to not sound like a buffoon. "I'm sorry I was expecting a man named Smith to receive the call, can you please connect me to him?" She appealed apprehensively. Smith was the only hope she could see at the time, she wouldn't be able to bear hearing no from the other side.

"I'm sorry who gave you this number?" The woman sleekly asked, ignoring the question once and for all.

"I told you earlier I was expecting a man to be on the phone because he gave me this number," She explained, feeling quite dumb already.

"I see. Well, if you need to tell him anything I can help you with that," The woman retorted suggestively and Kelly's eyes shone with a revelation. This woman knew Smith. So the ground for hopes wasn't as dry as she thought.

"Can yo...can you please ask him to talk to me, it's urgent," Kelly rattled out as the adrenaline rush coursed through her veins due to sheer optimism.

"Uh, I apologise for the disapproval Miss, Mr. Smith is not in reach at the moment but I can convey your message as you said it's urgent," The woman offered. Kelly's spirit dampened, stifling a sigh in her chest and racking her brain for an answer.

"No, it needs to be conveyed directly. Please inform me whenever he is back," Kelly replied in defeat, but then a sudden pop of another question ticked in her mind and before any of them could drop the call she threw the question, "If you don't mind can I ask if you're Smith's secretary?" She asked downrightly out of curiosity. After all, Smith gave her this woman's number, she must have meant something to him. Maybe it was a move to tell her that he was not interested in any acquaintances. But who was she to assume it on her own?

The woman snickered softly, "No, Miss. I'm not his secretary, we are professional colleagues. I'm Mrs. Maslow's personal servant and he is her chauffeur," The woman elaborated politely. That made Kelly drop her stifled sigh, along with another idea hitting her mind. Though it would present her as a desperate need, she had to give it a shot. Let's see where the chance would take her.

"Oh, Mrs. Maslow? You mean Alisa Maslow, right? Ah, can you at least request her to listen to me. I know she's a busy woman but it's important, lives matter on this call," Kelly over-exaggerated but it would all be worth it if the deal would turn out in her friend's favour. She was so ardent to toss her out of her obnoxious circumstances.

"Uh, this is also impossible since you don't have any call scheduled with her. I'm sorry to disappoint you again," The woman crushed her hopes again, but she wasn't going to give up so easily.

"Please, I beg you, please. My friend can die. At least tell her the name Ariel, I'm sure she wouldn't want to miss this call," Kelly nearly begged her to the point where she started taking the matter gravely. She didn't think that she would be using the incident to extort benefits from the rich, but she was left with no choice. Maybe this could be an important matter. The woman wondered for a second.

"Alright, I'll try, give me a second," Kelly breathed out triumphantly. She knew Mrs. Maslow was a kind-hearted woman; she certainly would arrange something for her, if not Smith then a place and an adequately paying job. The woman took long seconds before she put the phone back on ear and informed Kelly that Alisa would be taking the call in a moment. Kelly responded thankfully. She waited until a distortion enlightened her about the exchange of the receiver.
