Ariel couldn't comprehend how those three days had passed in a blink. Tristan expounded to her on his plan yet she couldn't make herself submit the contract to him yesterday. In fact, to avoid him, she didn't go to the office. And now, she was clutching the file close to her racing heart and wondering if she was really ready to face him. But either way, she had to. There was no other option.
She got ready and left for work without eating. She stopped by Miles and fed him soup that she made. Once he was set to sleep, she left for her workplace.
Throughout the day, she kept herself engrossed in work and avoided any contact with him. Irene told her four times that he was asking for her but every time she would come up with a new excuse to dodge him.
It was their lunch break when Tristan stomped out of the elevator, fuming and approached her desk like a bullet train. Her eyes widened having his heavy presence here. To her pathetic luck, she was all alone as Irene left with her boyfriend.
"Mr. Maslow," She raised to her feet, her hands clasped but heart thumping madly.
He approached her behind the desk in two quick steps and clutched her hand, her gaze lowered to his heaving chest that was inches apart from her mouth. Tristan's body emitted deranged heat as he heatedly stared at her with his jaw clenched.
"Why are you ignoring me?" He asked in a husked tone.
"No, I'm not ignoring you, sir," Her reply made him clutch her arm in a tight grip. He raised his other hand to lift her tiny chin.
"Look up whenever I talk to you and I would be damned if you ever address me with sir again," His voice was husky and daunting. With huge difficulty, she uplifted her crystal pair and deprived him of his breath, whereas her own breath lost its track within her once she saw him sucking some of the air.
"Why are you testing me like this?" His fingers traced her jaw and caressed her cheek ever so gently as his anger compressed after gazing at her innocent face. Her eyes started to give in as she found the act so tender.
"I'm doing nothing," She retorted with her eyes closed and a ragged breath. He gulped when his eyes went to her pinkish lip that had a gloss on.
"Was it because I kissed you?" He asked, running his thumb on her lips, spoiling gloss all over her lips. Her pluckers parted, fanning hot breath on his thumbpad.
This was the question Ariel had no answer to. She couldn't fathom why she avoided him. Was it really because he kissed her? No. It was the first time she enjoyed someone's touch. For the first time, it didn't feel like a chore or harassment. His touch was soft and reverent.
The truth was she was in denial. Marrying someone like him was a far-fetched dream. Her heart contorted in a jolt every time she thought of having him as her husband. They were poles apart yet fate was merging them as one. She failed to reckon this.
"Tell me, love. Did you not like my touch," He asked with his strained breath fanning on her sweaty face, marring the myriad of her thoughts.
"No, it's not what I..."
"Have you signed the contract?" He silenced her with another question. Desperation was all over in his voice.
"Y..Yes," Her answer brought a victorious chuckle out of his mouth, the corner of his lips tugging into a heartfelt smile. He leaned closer and joined his forehead with hers.
"Now you shouldn't worry about anything," He whispered softly and raised his lips to place a kiss on her temple. She quietly savoured her soft gesture with an electrifying current sprinkling down her body.
