Flashback when Hailee and Y/N were 6 years old
3rd person's POV
"But Lee, I don't want you to go with Niall." Y/N whined. "He's only inviting me over for a playdate, Y/N/N." Hailee explained. "I don't like him, he's mean." Y/N pouted.

"Yeah, even though some girls say that he's good looking but I don't fancy him at all."

"Really?" Hailee nodded.

"He's a stupid boy."

"Y/N/N!" Y/N giggled. "What if your mum knows that you said a bad word." Hailee continued. "She won't, besides I'm just saying the truth." Hailee sighed and shook. "Silly girl."

"But I'm your favourite silly girl."

"I guess so." The two girls lied down on Y/N's bed and gossiped about boys.

Present
Y/N's POV
I tighten the tie around my neck and put on my blazer then check to see if I'm satisfied with how I look. I looked at my watch on my left wrist. 8:17am it said. I grabbed my belongings along with my car keys and drove off to Hailee's house.

I arrived later after about half an hour, we don't exactly live far away from each other so we visit constantly. I parked outside of her house and walked inside.

There are workers carrying cages with doves inside them while some others brought in flowers.

There's also a car parked in front of her house, with small flower bouquets on each door handle and a heart-shaped sign that says "just wedded" with two initials "H+N".

As I was looking around, I heard someone spoke up. "Didn't think you'd show up after I heard that you were crying when you received the invitation." I looked up to see Griffin, standing in front of me with his hands in his pants' pockets.

"People consider it rude if you don't attend your best friend's wedding." I hugged him and he returned it as well. "Are you really gonna leave after the wedding?" He asked as we pulled away and I sighed. "Well it's not like I have a choice, I need to get my doctor degree and I don't wanna poke my nose into someone's family business." I shrugged.

"I'm gonna miss you so much, everyone is sad to see you go."

"I'll visit you guys during holidays, it's not like I'm gone forever." I cheered him up. "6 years is long." He sounded sad. "I know, a lot of things can happen in 6 years, like how a lot of things happened in the past 4 years." I tried to lighten the mood up but it doesn't seem to be working

"Are you sure about this, Y/N/N? Leaving everyone behind, driving yourself crazy by studying more and try to do whatever it takes so that you can ignore the fact that you're still in love with my sister?"

"I will be in so much pain if I stay, and hey she chose to move on so I have to do it at some point too you know?" He sighed.

"You're right, I hope things go well for you Y/N. Nothing but the best."

"Thanks Griff."

Flashback, when Hailee and Y/N were 9 years old
"Lee?" I asked and Hailee hummed in reply. "Can you promise me something?" She put down the magazine so she could focus on me. "Sure, what is it?"

"Promise me that when we're older you will marry me, please?"

"Of course Y/N/N but why did you ask all of a sudden?" I got up from Hailee's lap and fixed my sitting posture. "Because I love spending time with you and I wanna do it for the rest of my life." I held both of her hands. "And boys are kinda dumb too." She giggled.

Present
"Hi Y/N it's so good to see you." Cheri said as she hugged me. "It's nice to see you too Mrs. Steinfeld." I returned the hug back. "Oh please don't be so formal, Y/N. We've known each other for years, just call me Cheri."

"Sorry, it's just a habit of mine. Do you mind if I ask where Hailee is?" I looked around.

"She's in her room doing her makeup, you can come in and talk to her if you want to." I nodded and walked to her room. I stood in front of the door and felt hesitant, what if she doesn't want to see me. I keep thinking for a while before knock on the door and waited for her to reply. "Come in." I turned the door knob and stepped inside.

"How's the bride?" She turned around and a smile was form on her lips. "Y/N!" She rushed over to me and hugged me. "Steinfelds really have a thing for hugs, don't they?" I said and she released me. "Sorry, today is just so..." She blanked out to think of a word. "Special?" I raised a brow and she nodded.

"Okay I think we're done, I need to talk to Y/N for a bit." She talked to her makeup artist and they exited the room. "I thought you said you can't come."

"Well technically I can't but it's rude to leave without saying goodbye one last time." I saw her face dropped. "What do you mean one last time?"

"I'm leaving Hailee, today is might be the last time you'll see me."

"And you didn't tell me?" I sighed. "I just had to much to work on so I didn't have time to talk to you about it." We stayed quiet for a moment before I spoke up again.

"Do you remember that stupid promise we made when we were 9?"

"The one that we promised we'd marry each other when we're older?" I nodded. "Time sure flies fast." She whispered. "Yeah."

"Hailee, when we broke up I was devastated. I tried every possible way to forget you but it didn't work and when I heard that Niall proposed to you, I was heartbroken. But just so you know before I leave, if there is afterlife I would still make that promise with you and keep it."

"I'm so sorry, Y/N. I didn't kn-" "It's fine Haiz, it's fine. Everything will be okay, Niall's the luckiest groom ever and I'm happy for both of you." I cut her off. I check my watch to see how much time I have left.

"I need to go know, I'll...see you somewhere if by chance. And promise me that you'll be happy beside him, happier than you were with me."

"I promise."

"Thank you." I hugged her one last time before leaving.

I stepped out of the room and closed the door.

"Leaving already?" I heard someone. "My flight is in 2 hours so I can't missed it." I turned around to see Pete. "I'll miss you kid."

"I'll miss the guy who taught me to fix cars/bestfriend's father too." We both laughed.

"Take care kid, don't die there. I'll lose my favorite ex-partner."

"Okay I won't, say hi to everyone for me will you?" I asked and he nodded.

I left the Steinfeld's house and drove to the airport, thinking about my future. A new life, new friends, new me.

A life without her.
