First period went by in a blur. Ms. Honan slept through the entire period and didn't even stir when the bell rang.
I sighed as I got up from my desk and grabbed my things. Up next, Chemistry in the 800 hall.
I kept my head down as I walked through the hall, trying my best to blend in with the crowd. And I almost made it to class without being caught. Dang it, so close.
Before I knew what happened, someone stuck out their foot in front of me, causing me to stumble and fall face-first on the floor. Kids chuckled as they passed by me in the hall, kicking my backpack across the floor, not bothering to help me up.
I quickly crawled across the floor, ignoring the random kicks from my fellow peers, and grabbed my backpack. I looked at my watch. Ugh, only 2 minutes and 45 seconds to make it to class.
Forgetting my plan about "blending in with the crowd", I decided to book it so I could make it to my next class. When I finally made it to the Chemistry lab with only one minute left, I sighed with relief and sank down onto my stool.
I took out everything I needed; my binder, two pencils (my lab partner is never prepared), and highlighters. As the bell rang, I looked around to see if my lab partner was anywhere in sight. Nope, no sign of him, guess I'm doing this project alone...thankfully.
Today we were going to be each be working on different assignments with our lab partners, the team that finishes first wins five extra credit points on the next test. Without my slow, lazy partner here, I should be able to finish first today.
As Mr. Hackles, a short, bald-headed fellow with giant bifocals, gave us our assignments, he was interrupted by a tall boy in a black hoodie and dark grey skinny jeans bursting into the room--soaking wet.
This boy just so happens to be my lab partner, who just so happens to be the one and only Tyler Kingsley.
Ignoring the shocked and flirtatious stares, he sat down at his stool next to me and began emptying out his backpack for his supplies--which he had none of.
I sighed and handed him a stack of paper and a pencil, like I do every other day of class. Don't ask me why I do it, I have no idea why I do. He just nods at me and takes the supplies. What is with his manners today?
Soon the class stops staring at him and gets to work. Today Tyler and I are burdened with the task of finding out how acids and bases react. This is supposed to be the easiest assignment of them all, but Tyler is making it look like rocket science.
"You can't mix those"
"That would start a fire"
"That turns it blue not green"
I was sick of being blunt, Tyler was just plain stupid. I gave him hints about where to put things but he still did it wrong. I put things in bigger containers but he still managed to spill them. He was impossible to deal with, but he's just lucky his cologne is distracting me so I can't hurt his little puppy dog feelings.
I bit my lip but ended up asking the question that seemed to be tugging at my mind:
"How come you're so wet?""What?" Tyler exclaimed and dropped the blue-liquid filled beaker in surprise, spilling it all over our table, and quickly looked down at his pants. I sighed, I hadn't meant to ask the question like that, everything seems to sound dirty when it comes out of my mouth. Ugh! Like that right there!
"That's not what I meant," I grumbled as I grabbed a bunch of paper towels and wiped down the blue, sticky mess "I just meant you're dripping water and your hair is soaked. Did you decide to jump in the water fountain or something?"
