Josie inhaled, simultaneous to another breath from the girl behind her.

"Hope?" Dr. Saltzman said in shock.

Josie turned. Staring at the blue eyed girl who was now sitting up as if nothing had happened.

Hope's eyes met Josie's. "What happened?"

"You were dead." Josie said blankly.

"Then how am I awake."

"We don't know." Alaric stated.

Josie lunged towards Hope, wrapping her arms around her neck, pushing her back down onto the bed.

The hug lasted all of two seconds before the blue eyed girl pushed Josie away.

Hope was breathing heavily — almost panting. "I..." She began.

Josie was on the verge of crying again.

"Something's wrong..." Hope began.

All three pair of eyes were on Hope's.

Hope's eyes widened. "You said I was dead, and if i was dead..."

"Oh my god." The sound came from Alaric but it was obvious that both Josette and Elizabeth had come to the same conclusion.

"But I had no vampire blood in my system."

"Unless..." Alaric started "you've always had vampire blood in your system. It makes sense. Your father was the original hybrid, half werewolf..."

"Half vampire." Josie finished.

Hope's lips parted slightly. An almost silent "oh" escaped.

"You need to feed." Josie blurted out.

"No."

"No? Hope, what do you mean no?"

"I don't want to live forever, Josette." Her blue eyes darkened. "Would you?"

"If I got to be with you forever, then yes. I would do anything to spend forever with you." Josie whispered.

Hope stared in shock. "What? I thought..." She trailed off.

"I changed my mind." She whispered so quietly only Hope heard.

The girl started into Josie's dark eyes for a long minute. "Me too." She whispered.

"You'll feed?"

"Yes."

"I'll get the blood bags." Lizzie said turning to the door.

"No," Josie intervened. "That's animal blood. Here, Hope." She extended her wrist towards the girl.

"Are you sure?" Hope asked.

"Absolutely." Her precious Josette replied.

Hope grabbed Josie's hand pulling the girl towards her.

Hope's fingers intertwined with Josie's before she placed her other hand on the girl's forearm.

Hope leant over and gently kissed the girls wrist before exposing her teeth and-

Hope's brain fogged. Nothing was relevant anymore, these people meant nothing to her. The only thing managing to break through the fog was the need for one thing and one thing only:

blood.

An "ow" slipped out of Josie's mouth as Hope lunged for the girls throat.

Less than three seconds had passed. Less than three seconds since Josie had been the most important thing to Hope. Since Hope's pink lips had brushed off Josie's soft skin.

The human speed of Alaric and Lizzie was nothing compared to the speed Hope was moving at. They weren't fast enough.

Josie began to squirm in Hope's grasp.

It took all her effort to let out a gasp of air. "Hope."

"Josie!" It came from Alaric, panicked — it was all so fast, he never had any say in the matter of his daughter giving up her blood — he shoved Hope off Josie.

Hope fell back, as Josie collapsed limp onto the bed.

Hope snapped back into sanity, staring down at Josette.

Alaric and Lizzie surrounded the girls body.

Hope didn't breathe.

Neither did Josie.

Lizzie straightened up. "You killed her." She growled.

Hope didn't hear, tears spilling out her blue eyes.

She looked up at the people on front of her. The tears stopped, her eyes going blank.

"I killed her." Hope's voice broke.
