" I don't understand it. . . " Dani began in a whisper her words barley reaching Archies ears. "I want her gone, I need her gone. . ." There was a certain kind of pain in Dani's tone as she spoke, her voice barely audible. " But then, why did it feel so good when she said she was going to stay? "

" Well, maybe we should start with why you feel you need her gone? " Archie asked calmly, already knowing she was talking about Emma.

" To protect Henry! He can't see that she won't keep to her word! " Dani's eyes were filled with fire as she spoke. " She already left us once, why should I - I mean we belive she'll stay now? "

There was a brief pause before Archie spoke again. A pause in which he simply let Dani breath and have a moment to calm herself.

" Are you completely sure this is about Henry? "

" What do you mean? "

"  Are you sure you are trying to protect Henry? Or are you trying to protect yourself? "

Dani looked like she had been slapped as she reeled back. Her eyes filled with tears as she looked at Archie. But before she could say anything back, a ding echoed out around them.

Dani's tears seemed to dry up almost instantly as a bitter look entered her eyes. " Oh, looks like our times up Doc. "

Dani was up and out of the office before Archie could speak a word, before he could even try and stop her. Slamming the door behind her as she went, Dani stormed through the building, only pausing when she was half way down the stair way.

" His appiontment ran over again. . . " She muttered to herself as she put a hand on the wall, bending over to catch her breath.

Dani was used to Henry's appiontments running over. . .

They almost always did, which means they almost always cut her own short. Yet Dani didn't blame Henry or even Archie for this. It made complete sense to her as to why something like this would happen after all.

Dani was the problem child. She pranked people mercilessly. She got in fights with other kids. She made deals with Gold. One time she even accidentally set the school chemisty lab on fire. . .

Henry on the other hand, was perfect. Sure he wasn't quite about the curse like she was, but he also never did anything wrong. He never got in fights no matter how many times someone came after him. He never retailiated against bullies. He had never set anything on fire. . .

Dani understood the gab between them, hell the towns people reminded her of it often enough. But that was okay, it was just the way things were. And it was also what made Archie wrong, because their roles meant one single thing for Dani.

It was her job to protect Henry.

He never retailaited against bullies, so she did it for him. He wouldn't fight other kids even when they came after him, so when he wasn't there, she did it for him. Gold helped her deal with the bullies that were a little too much even for her. And the chemistry lab? She had seen someone about to put something into one of Henrys becons, so she switched places with him, and it went into hers instead.

Standing back up, Dani finished making her way downstairs to meet up with Henry outside. Watching her brother's smile light up his face when he caught sight of her, just stangethed her resolve. Henry was still innocent, Henry still belived in people, in her. So she would do everything she could to protect him.
