The man in the white suit and black skeleton mask was Black Mask, one of the gangster bosses in Gotham. But what was he doing in the art museum?
Black Mask was walking down the aisle with his finger on the trigger, his henchmen robbing the guests, taking the women's jewelry and the men's expensive watches. Me and Vicky were on the other side of the hall and I didn't hesitate and secretly snapped some pictures of the bad guys.
"(y/n) what are you doing!"
Vicky whispered softly in my ear
"What does it look like? I'm taking some pictures before they take my camera!"
I whispered back to her, when I noticed that the men were getting closer to us I quickly turned off my camera and hid the memory card in my bra. Just in time, because at the same moment one of the men appeared in front of us.
"Get up!" he said, we did what he wanted and the man took all our valuables from us. Meanwhile, Black Mask was walking behind his followers, watching the people closely, as if he was turned on by the fear on their faces. >he is just disgusting!<
Because Vicky and I were near the new painting 'The Girl in the Poppy Field' Black Mask walked very close to us, watching us as his henchman robbed us and was that a smile? He continued to approach the painting and stopped close to it, breathing heavily so that I could hear it well, what does he care about the painting? Black Mask reached out his hand and took it down. >He wants to steal the painting?< it immediately popped into my head, I can't let him do that, without this painting the museum will have to close.
Vicky saw me watching Black Mask and noticed how my face changed from fear to determination and I clenched my fists, she grabbed my wrist so that I looked at her and she shook her head with fear in her eyes. She is right I can't do anything against him he would shoot me on the spot, I just nodded back at Vicky with understanding and she let go of me again.
At the same time Black Mask destroyed the frame to roll up the painting and put it in a tube. The noise made me turn my head quickly back to him and I saw him put the painting away.
>Do something, otherwise the museum is lost!< said a voice in the back of my head, and as if out of affect I stood up and raised my voice.
"Hey Black Mask, you can't steal this painting!"
There was silence in the room and all eyes were on me except that of the villain as he was facing me with his back turned. He also stopped for a moment and handed the scroll with the painting to one of his henchmen and slowly turned to me with both hands outstretched and a pistol in his right hand. He slowly came to me step by step, I felt my legs go soft with fear and my heart was beating so loudly that everyone in the room could hear it, I felt the fear sweat slowly dripping down my forehead. He stood extremely close in front of me, he smelled like brandy and aftershave, and also like a disgusting men's perfume.
He put the barrel of his pistol under my chin and pushed my face up with it.
"I also had a wife, she was beautiful, like you, but she complained about everything I did and you know what I did when I had enough?" He took a little break everything was silent
"I shot her"
he shouted through the hall and unlocked the pistol and pointed it at my temple, tears came to my eyes and I looked at Vicky who was holding her hand over her mouth to keep her from crying out loud, at the same time I saw a dark shadow moving quickly through the hall and quietly taking out some of Black Mask's men.
Batman!
He had come to save us, I had to gain time for him, so I gathered all my courage and opened my mouth.
"You can't steal this painting, it doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the museum and without it it will have to close!"
Black Mask just laughed and pressed the cold weapon harder against my sleep, forcing me slightly to my knees.
"Do you think I care, doll?"
"I don't let people like you intimidate me, you think just because you have a gun you can do anything you want and no one will do anything about it, but there is one who will stand in your way!" it came out of my mouth broken and with tears in my eyes. Black Mask put his finger on the trigger and was about to pull it but then everything happened too fast for me to realize it.
A smoke bomb rolled directly between us and Black Mask removed the gun from my temple and took the bomb into his hand to throw it away, but by the time he had it in his hand, a lot of smoke was coming out of it and I couldn't see it. I couldn't even see my hand in front of my eyes.
I felt someone big landed on the ground behind me, an arm wrapped around my waist, and a deep raspy voice I knew all too well whispered to me.
"Don't make a sound, I'm taking you to a safe place"
and under the cover of mist a thread on Batman's belt pulled us up to the 2nd floor, since it was closed for the gala, it was under renovation and there was no one there. When we landed there I had to cough a little because of the smoke and Batman gently set me back down on one of the benches. He kneeled before me and put both hands on my shoulders where he saw the injury on my left arm and his eyes were filled with concern, he opened his mouth but I was quicker.
"It's just a scratch, a rock grazed me in the explosion, you need to get back down there fast and stop that son of a bitch!"
"There was a small dosed amount of narcotics inside the bomb, he should get some sleep now."
I just nodded in understanding. There we were again, Batman saving me and taking all the time in the world just to make sure how I was doing, I couldn't get a word out in shock. We both just sat there and looked deep in each other's eyes.
"Somehow you attract danger like a magnet, what you did was very brave but also very stupid, he could have shot you right away and then I don't know what..."
he was interrupted by shouting from the first floor, it was Black Mask, who was only slightly woozy from the bomb but quickly pulled himself together again. He fired two warning shots into the ceiling.
"Oh Batman! Really impressive how you took out my men while I was busy with that bitch!"
Batman didn't move but his grip on my shoulders tightened a bit so that I let out a small whimper, when he noticed that he let go of me and his eyes had an apologetic look. I just nodded at him and whispered to him
"not so bad, didn't hurt at all".
"Come down to play little bat! Or do I have to shoot someone first?" I heard a woman cry out I knew that voice it was Vicky my body stiffened and I whispered her name softly. Batman noticed, got up, stroked my head and then my cheek and jumped down backwards. I ran to the railing and watched what was happening.
Black Mask threw Vicky on her side to the ground I wanted to call her name but it would be better if Black Mask didn't know where I was, Vicky got a small cut on her forehead from the impact but otherwise she looked fine.
Black Mask and Batman got into a fight, Black Mask took a lot of punches, but Batman also took a lot of damage. A punch here and a roundhouse kick there. Suddenly the villain took out a strange knife from his jacket, it looked like a small chainsaw, he attacked Batman with it who held up his arm to protect himself but he underestimated the strange weapon and the small chainsaw bit through his armor and he was seriously injured in the arm. He screamed loudly, kicked Black Mask away from him and took out a small device from his belt which I couldn't see, the only thing I saw was blood dripping from his right arm and almost making a small puddle on the ground. Batman's counter attack consisted of 2 Batarangs connected with a rope, he threw it at Black Masks legs which were wrapped with the rope and he fell to the ground. At the same time Batman jumped into the air and landed on Black Mask and threw a well-aimed punch at his temple, causing Black Mask to faint immediately. While Batman tied Black Mask to a pillar of the museum, I ran down to Vicky to make sure she was okay.

"Please don't ever do that again, I was so scared I almost fell over!"
"I promise Vicky"
I told her with a smile as I wiped the blood from her forehead with my dress. We both laughed and hugged each other. Suddenly I heard a loud groan next to us. It was Batman who stood up after arresting Black Mask, and couldn't hold himself up anymore because of the pain, so he leaned against the wall. He pressed something on his mask and I didn't understand much, only something about being badly hurt and needing medical help. This was the moment where I could return the favor and finally help him. I turned again briefly to Vicky which had also noticed everything, and she knew me so well that she knew what I wanted to do and just nodded.
"Go on, I'm fine, now our hero needs help"
I nodded her thanks and ran after Batman, who crept up the stairs to the 2nd floor to be seen by no one.
