My name? Ari, it's not short for anything. It's Ari. I am seventeen years old and I live in nowheresville. Seriously, that's the name of the town I live in. I write poems instead of math problems and I always end up second best, always falling short. My brother, Dillan, excels at everything, I'm only half witty, I can draw but nobody notices, I love singing but nobody has ever heard me. I have short plain brown hair and grey eyes. My one friend, Sade, keeps insitiing that they're green but she's lying, of course she must be lying! My eyes don't even look green!
"I wish you'd just wake up and realize how pretty you are." She says almost everyday at lunch,
"Dillian got the good looks, I got my dads."
"Yeah, and he's hot!"
"You do realize that's completely inapropriat, and also that the man walked out on me when I was seven?" I raise my eyebrow at her.
"You got the good end of the bargain my friend."
"really? How?" I ask sarcasticly.
"You've got these steely green eyes, the most adorable pixe cut I've ever seen, you have a kick ass atitude and you have these great long legs."
"My eyes are grey. My pixie cut is just because the downtoyourfeet doo was not working. I'm snarky and rude, and most of my body is legs, I trip over them everyday."
I know I've made her mad because she stares at me with her lower lip being crushed by her teeth.
"I really hate it when you talk like that," she whispers,"We just want you to see yourself for who you are."
"I'm sorry I made you mad, but I don't understand why we must contiually discuss this."
My other friend, Riley, rubs my back comfortingly.
"Because we can't let it go." She joked and I smiled. They were my best friends and I'm glad of it.
"Hey, I know what we're doing on sunday!" Said Sade, bouncing up and down in her chair. I don't know how she can snap back so fast I really don't.
"Sleeping?" I asked.
"No! Silly face, we're going to Megan's party!" she squealed.
"No." I said flatly.
"Please!" she begged.
"I haven't got anything to wear." I lied.
"Then I know what we're doing tomorrow."
"What?"
"Shopping!"
"NO!"
"You own me one, remember?"
"Dam you! I don't want to go."
"Please. I really want you to come."
"Why?" I whined.
"Because you're my friend and you need to have some social time."
"Please Ari."
I sighed, dam them for knowing my weakness. "Fine."
"Yay!"
I roll my eyes and we say good-bye to each other. Leaving in opposite directions.
