Jasper Hale was on edge, to put it mildly. He was incredibly nervous to meet the teenager that would change the course of his future. In exactly four minutes and fifteen seconds. He'd already caught a whiff of his enticing scent in the halls, a beautiful mixture of bourbon vanilla and allspice, and fresh woods on a warm day. Jasper had never smelled anything quite so wonderful in his entire existence. It made him want to bury his nose in the others neck where his scent would be the most concentrated.

He swallowed thickly, at least it felt like his throat was constricted, even if he knew it wasn't possible. He had to control himself, to remember restraint and his previous humanity. How to properly interact for the best possible first impression.

Because for once, he actually cared what someone besides his family thought. Cared about the impression he would leave on him.

Because Kova Beckett would become the most important thing in his life.

Alice had seen it, and he trusted her visions implicitly. He always had. Edward would argue that things can always change. But they rarely, if ever, did- when it came to Alice's visions. And in this instance, Jasper could only desperately hope that they didn't.

Finding out that Kova was not, in fact, human... had been a minor shock. When Edward went home early that morning while Bella was asleep to tell them the news, Jasper had not expected it to be that his mate was a werewolf. Although, he was unlike the Quileute wolves, as he didn't smell the same. His scent didn't stink like theirs did. Especially not to Jasper. And he quite obviously wasn't of their heritage, being Bella's cousin.

After the initial surprise, Jasper only grew intensely curious. And grateful.

He wanted to know everything about the young werewolf. What made him different? Could he transform into a full wolf? Did he have enhanced senses like Jasper did? Did he have extra abilities of any kind? What did he look like in his werewolf form? What did he look like in his human one? Was he as breakable as Bella, or was he more durable like the Quileute wolves? He was excited to compare the two, to see the similarities and differences between the two species.

He was grateful because the fact that his mate was inhuman... it ruled out the possibility of Jasper being unable to control himself around the scent of the others blood. Which was something he had been nauseously concerned about.

As students began to file into the class, Jaspers golden eyes were drawn to the door. He listened intently, wondering if he could pick out Kova's voice before he saw him. Wondering if he would be as drawn to the sound as he was to his scent.

But Kova was silent as he made his way to one of the few classes that he had without Bella or Edward. Stiles hadn't gotten back to him yet, and his mind was running a mile a minute. A mile a minute, in circles. He hadn't had any free time on his own to attempt research, and he knew it was pointless. Only Stiles could get to the bottom of it within a few hours. It was his gift, and his ADHD tendency to hyperfixate.

Bella stopped at the door with him, smiling as she presented the opening to yet another classroom.

"Presenting my next hour of torture are you?" Kova chuckled, which made Bella laugh.

"Indeed," She smiled, and then peeked inside. "But Jasper's in this class, he's Edward's brother. I'm sure you could sit with him. Not that you'll have a choice, it's likely the only empty desk."

This last part was muttered under her breath, but not maliciously. More like an observation. Kova wondered how Bella knew the desk next to Edward's brother would be empty. Was there something wrong with him? Did he make everyone uncomfortable somehow? But if he was like Edward... of course he would. Could the humans sense that something was off about them too?
