Jasper stiffened next to Kova, feeling his sudden panic as he stared at the Cullen siblings. His feelings were starting to resemble that of a trapped animal.
"I uhh- I forgot I told Stiles I'd call him," Kova blurted out, very suddenly rising from his seat.
His eyes were burning with the need to change, his fingernails itching to elongate into dangerous claws. He was very pointedly not looking at Jasper or Edward. He was totally freaking out right now. He's alone, in a new town, without his pack... and there's a possible threat of eight supernatural creatures. He was severely outnumbered.
"Koko?" Bella frowned in concern, beginning to rise from her seat as well.
"I'll see you in class," he answered, bee-lining for the cafeteria door.
He felt bad for leaving Bella with them, but she's been dating the guy for lord knows how long, she obviously wasn't in any danger from him. Then he stopped very suddenly in his tracks in the middle of the hallway. Did Bella know? Was she in on it? His stomach flipped as he burst through the exit and into the fresh air. Anger simmered beneath his skin, the wolf demanding to be heard. Kova's eyes landed on the dense forest surrounding the school grounds and then he was running.
Edward and Jasper watched Kova go, both with obvious concern and Bella glared suspiciously between the two.
"Okay, somebody tell me what's going on!" She demanded in a harsh whisper.
You didn't tell her anything? Jasper thought, and Edward shook his head subtly. He's freaking out, he thought with worry. I should go after him.
Edward cocked his head as he thought. Should someone go after him? He'd heard every thought that was going through Kova's mind, and the wolf was feeling overwhelmingly outnumbered. Would they make it worse by going after him? But Jasper had to speak with him before he drew his own conclusions. Perhaps they should have found a way to approach him sooner... but that thought was pointless now.
"Maybe you should," Edward answered Jasper out loud. "Just be cautious."
Jasper immediately stood up, following the scent of Kova from the cafeteria as he heard Bella whisper yell at Edward for ignoring her and not clueing her in. Jasper's eyes landed on the tree line, where Kova's scent led. He caught a muttered curse on the air from the werewolf and approached cautiously.
"Dammit Stiles, pick up!" Kova gritted through his teeth.
Jasper approached slowly, though it was unnecessary. Kova sensed him as soon as he'd entered the forest. He bristled, his back to Jasper. His eyes were glowing yellow, his claws and fangs very clearly out of their hiding places.
"Stay back," Kova warned.
He fervently wished he was able to scent Jaspers emotions the way he could a humans. It would be rather helpful. And he just now realized that he couldn't. He was very quickly loosing his patience, especially since he didn't feel the need to hide what he was in front of another supernatural. The day had simply been too much. His emotions were a mass of utter confusion that he couldn't sift through or control.
"God, what are you man?!" Kova whirled on Jasper, an inhuman growl behind his words as he breathed heavily.
Jasper stared in wonder at his transformed mate. Kova's eyes were glowing a golden yellow colour that reminded Jasper of autumn sunlight. He had dangerous looking fangs protruding from his mouth, and each of his fingernails had changed into sharp claws Jasper had no doubt could do some serious damage. So very different from the Quileutes. And so breathtakingly beautiful. Kova stood tall and defiant, his stance wide, his muscles flexed and ready to pounce. He was every bit the beautiful predator, and Jasper loved it. God, did he love it. Something inside him twitched, and he recognized the arousal for what it was- even if it had been a very long time since he felt it last.
