Day 30 as the Substitute Prince

It has been over a week since I last saw or spoke to my beautiful Aria. It has been over a week since I have heard anything about Heather.

And finally, it is the final day of being the substitute prince.

If all goes well, Zadkiel should be on his way back by now, and what he will walk into is a literal mess. I didn’t want it to end like this. I wanted to tell Aria everything. But I guess we don’t always get what we want.

I just want to see her once more.

I want to hold her, I want to feel her and I want to kiss her like I have never kissed her before. Then, and only then, I’d be ready to face reality again.

The truth can do  a lot of things. It can make and it can break. For me, I am not sure what outcome this will have, but I do wish for the best, as I cannot bear to live without my beautiful princess.

Everything is in rumbles. But if I know anything about life, even the largest of rubbles can be used as the first foundation for new development.

I just hope that my life will yield the same results.

Signed,

Chad

Chad’s eyes closed on instinct as he wrote the final word of his final log. He hasn’t recorded one in all the time he has been home, considering the fact that he left his journal at the castle.

But today, the day that should end his reign as prince, he knew he had to write it.

As instructed by King Andreas himself, if the end of September should come and there is no update about Heather, he was to return to the castle to discuss further measures for safety.

Chad believed that the king was planning to send Aria and him away to another country until Heather is dealt with, but he hoped it wouldn’t have come to this, considering the fact that the real prince would’ve been home by then.

Sadly, the month had indeed ended, and so he had no choice but to go back. Despite Dania’s countless pleas to stay home or run away to England, Chad knew he had to face this mess of a lie that he and Zadkiel cooked up.

Even with Joshua gone and the uncertainty that Zadkiel was even back, Chad wanted to do the right thing and face his truth. Either way, he would’ve had to eventually.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” came Dania’s voice from the direction of the door, causing Chad’s eyes to open on instinct as he slowly came back to reality.

He rose slowly from his chair, already dressed in his royal tunic to head back to the castle. He met Dania’s worried gaze with a smile of assurance as he tucked the piece of paper in his pocket.

“Oh dear sister, I must. It is my duty now.”

“No, it is the prince’s duty. And he will be back today, will he not?” she insisted. Chad was almost annoyed, but then he remembered that she was only looking out for him.

He was her only living relative, after all.

“Indeed.” Chad mumbled. “However I am still unsure. I do not know if Zadkiel was even in this scheme with Joshua from the beginning. I cannot begin to imagine the countless ways this could go wrong.”

“You are right.” Dania sighed, already accepting defeat from her stubborn brother. “But promise me you will be careful, Chad. I cannot lose you too.”
