I stood on the dock of Littleroot Harbor, and watched the sun rise. Today was my seventeenth birthday, and the day I was to meet my Fiancé.
We had been engaged ever since I was born, but I had never met him. The agreement was a complicated one, and was due to my family's connection to Legendary Pokémon.
Normally my engagement would be set up with someone from my Clan, who could speak the Forbidden Language, but my Parents promised me instead to their close friend's Son. My Grandparents threw a huge fit, but Mom and Dad wanted to end tradition, and hopefully end the torment that supposedly plagues our family line.
So far, I've been lucky. I've never had to deal with my family's curse, but Mom assures me that I don't want to, and I don't want my Daughter to. It has driven many of our ancestors insane.
I closed my eyes and let the sea breeze flow though my waist-length white hair, and against my knee-length, sleeveless, jean dress. Alain was his name. Alain Rune. I had watched him win the Kalos region Pokémon League two years ago, so I knew what he looked like, but that was it. I was nervous to meet him.
Sighing, I turned around, but immediately froze. Sitting on the side of the dock a short distance away was a tall man, who looked around the age of eighteen, with messy black hair, and wearing a black outfit, with an ice blue puffy scarf around his neck.
"So. You're Kiada Vail." He said staring out over the waves. I looked down. "Yes. I am."
I heard him stand, and a moment later I realized that he was in front of me. I looked up at him, feeling uneasy. Did he hate the engagement? This type of thing wasn't normal for most people. I wouldn't blame him if he resented it.
His eyes were serious, but not cold. He seemed to be looking into my soul through my sky blue eyes. I was afraid to look away from him.
Finally, he took a breath. "My name is Alain Rune. I'm your Fiancé. I know your family usually stays put here in Littleroot, but I would like it if the two of us could travel Hoenn together, in order for us to more properly get to know one another. That is my only request."
My eyes widened. I had been forbidden to leave Littleroot. I had even been forbidden to have a Pokémon. What Alain was suggesting my Grandparents never would've allowed, but they had passed away last year. It was up to my parents now. Would they allow it?
I looked down again. "I have to get my Parents approval, otherwise they'll be worried, but if they agree to it, I'll go."
"Alright." Alain said. "Then we should go see your Parents." I nodded and started down the dock. Alain followed.
