"How are you doing?" Alain asked as he placed a glass of lemonade in front of me and sat down across the table. We were waiting to hear if Ralts was going to survive, and I was too overwhelmed by my situation, so Alain had gone to get something for us to drink.

I took hold of my glass, but didn't drink anything. What was going on?

Alain gazed out the window, absentmindedly stirring his lemonade with his straw. After another moment, however, he stopped.

"We can stay in Littleroot." Alain suddenly said. I looked at him surprised, but his gaze remained out the window.

"You'll be safer if we do. We'll stay there."

I stood up quickly. "No!" Alain didn't respond. I narrowed my eyes.

"That was the first time. The first time I heard him."

This time Alain looked at me. "Who did you hear?"

I sat down and looked at my cup deafeated. I had to tell him now. Though I would have to tell him eventually anyway.

"Alain. Do you know the history of my family?"

I had his attention now.

"I only know that your family has strict rules for its women." He responded. I closed my eyes.

"Near the beginning of time, when humankind was still new, the Legendary Pokémon were at war with each other. Fighting for dominance and territory. The world was on the brink of destruction. That is, until a Princess and two Princes sought out three different Legendary Pokémon who they knew could help restore balance."

"The first Prince approached The Alpha, while the second Prince approached The Being of Order. Both asked for their chosen Legendary to fight alongside them, which the Pokémon agreed, having seen the crumbling world for themselves."

"This was not the case with the Princess, however."

"The princess had approached The Master of the Sky. She asked that he help her bring peace back to the world. This impressed The Master of the Sky, and he told her to come back to his tower in three days."

"The Princess left, but on the second day returned. The Master of the Sky, The Alpha, and The Being of Order all stood waiting for her."

"First The Alpha asked why the Princess had disobeyed and come early, which she responded that her Brother had been killed that morning and she could wait no longer. Even if it meant being punished, she would come today."

"Next, The Being of Order asked if she was afraid of death, which she answered with a firm 'no'."

"It was then that The Master of the Sky approached the Princess. He placed his large head down in front of her, and told her to touch him. She did so, and instantly collapsed."

"When the Princess awoke, she was home in bed, but her life would never be the same."

"You see, the Princess had been granted The Blessing of Eternal Bonds, and her Clan had been blessed with the ability to understand the Forbidden Language. A language used to command the moves of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon."

"There was a problem with a Human carrying this blessing though."

"Slowly, the blessing which allowed her to communicate with Legendary Pokémon through visions and transmissions, as well as giving her the ability to use the Forbidden Language, was killing her."

"First she would feel pain from the power, then that pain would drive her insane, before causing her heart to finally stop."

"This is what happened to the Princess, and all of her descendants. Eventually, our family found a way to slow the effects, by putting up a special barrier around a small town and keeping the current Princesses away from Pokémon, but in the end they all met the same fate. Until me."

"Until you?" Alain asked.

I took a shaky breath.

"I had never experienced any of those things while I was growing up. It wasn't until route 101 that I heard the voice of a Legendary Pokémon and was able to use the Forbidden Language."

"That word I shouted. Shi-O. It means Time in the Forbidden Language, and activates the move Roar of Time. Dialga's signature move."

"It was out of hopeless desperation that somehow it would work. I had no idea it would, but all I could think was that I had to protect Ralts."

I looked at Alain and gave him a pleading look. "But you know what was really amazing?" I squeezed my cup.

"I didn't feel any pain. I'm not like the rest of my family. I can travel and live a real life. Please let me Alain. You're not the only one who doesn't want to be stuck in Littleroot."

He stared at me, clearly unsure what to say. He didn't get a chance to either, because we had a visitor.
