Rocky sand, red orange waves, glowing heat —
I rushed to the sunrise in a scurry.
Without care, my feet, in a young heart's beat,
Leaped into the waters and set journey.
Attached to his promise of a new realm
Devoid of any compass but his sound.
A safe heaven to rest — never to overwhelm —
With trinkets, treasures, stories to be found.
We explored the ocean like no other,
But alas, I was yanked back to the shore.
Life passed, I asked: am I still his lover?
The truthful answer lies in the sea's core.
I dare not say, so pour on, the regret
As I ask "what if" 'til my last sunset.
