Stars shine in the sky as the city went to sleep, lights slowly clicking off, only a few remaining on which mostly resolved around open-late stores and apartments. From a roof, you could see it all.
A young adult, a brown tail swaying behind him, a red ribbon wrapped around the end, ends flowing in the night's cold breeze. As well did the ribbon did on his head, wrapped under messy dark-auburn hair. His legs dangled and swung off the side of the tall building, he had no fears. He was one with power, one to be known forever. The successor of Monkey King.
People had begun to notice the boy sitting up there after a lot of observation; standing and staring, not looking away till they realized that a tail peeked out from his sides and sometimes wrapped around his body in a comforting manner. No one had figured out just yet why he was up there. They tried to go up, tried to open the door, but it wouldn't budge. A magical spell had been placed, no lock could be picked or broken, till said so.
Shenanigans of the Monkey Kid.
One had yet to see him with more than himself, but tonight, one did.
A tall, scrawnly fellow with fiery hair, flowing up with tips of flame. Hard to tell in the night's darkness, no one knew who it was. Only MK himself.

Flames arose from nothing on the ground behind the Monkey Kid, making him turn and grin. The red and orange colors mixed and grew larger till the dome of it eventually fell down and uncovered the scrawny man, walking over fidgeting with his shirt.
He wore his normal clothes, a long red trench coat with a necklace of his family's insignia, red suspenders resting on his hips over his indigo cargo pants. His skin was a faint red, tiny horns poked out his head near his hairline.
He was Red Son.
Red Son took a seat down beside MK, who still hadn't said a word but looked quite happy, tail saying so. The redhead sighed and leaned away a little, not daring to sit near the other, or close to the edge.
"How can you even sit so near that edge?" Red surprisingly gave the first couple of words of the hangout.
MK let out a chuckle, leaning forward just to freak his friend out. He always did! "Oh, Sonny, you're such a child."
"Don't call me that."
MK smiled and looked away, to the city still winding down for the night, people heading home, late shopping, driving, whatever you could think of. It was beautiful, MK could admit, to watch the ways his homecity went to sleep.
After minutes of silence, MK scratched his head. "So, what happened today?"
Red always needed help, and MK was the best for it. After the events of defeating the Lady Bone Demon , everyone went through a little something. Mei with the Samadhi Fire, Red Son healing his relationship with his parents, and MK just... healing from anything and everything. They all went through something, and MK still had nightmares about the Bone Demon. Paranoia had started to get the best of him, he saw her sometimes, vividly, when she was actually long gone. It almost drove him insane.
MK needed help too sometimes, but today, he was just as cheery as ever, ready to help a friend. That seemed to be his job, in a good way. It was a help me help you situation, a friendship.
Red Son intertwined his fingers on his lap, high ponytail of flames waving slowing in the wind. He fidgeted, anxiously.
"Me and father had an argument. Nothing bad, of course, we have gotten better. He wanted a new type of Bull Clone, I made it, or at least tried." Red shrugged, pulling a strand of fiery hair and twirling it around his long finger. "It broke, blew up in fact, in front of him."
MK made a face, "And he got mad? What was it, the first model?"
He nodded, letting go of his hair and rolling up his red sleeve. A burn mark, a dark auburn color along his light red skin. It was already beginning to make a weird texture on the flesh. MK made a disgusted noise and looked away.
"That should have been expected. I'm not looking at that again but," he laughed softly, looking back when Red confirmed he put his sleeve down, "are you fine?"
Red Son thought for a moment in silence and huffed. "Of course I am! Plus... he, might have apologized."
MK's eyes seemed to sparkle, and he clapped softly above his lap. "Ohh? That's great! Did youuu?" MK pestured teasingly.
Red groaned with a roll of his eyes, "Yeah, duh, of course I did." MK mocked him, so he lifted his hand and gave the other a playful smack and glare, sending him into a fit of giggles. Red cracked a warm smile.
The two went back into their silent thoughts, only speaking to point out small things down below. It was their favorite thing. Maybe even sometimes MK ripped out a strand of hair, made some apples, and they took turns trying to hit people from above. It was hilarious, they were indeed childish men. Red even made a small fire show, a monkey, similar to the ones at Monkey King's home. It was simple of course, just a funny little cartoon Red Son had once seen. MK loved it. He even sneaked a scooch over closer to his friend, knowing he'd never realize, because if he did he'd hate it!
Flames died away, ash flying away in the night sky. MK hummed, Red stared down. Or what he could see that was down. He sure didn't enjoy heights, especially when he was just hanging out at the edge of a building.
The redhead had been messing with the pocket of his pants, then the strap, then his jacket, then his necklace. MK knew something was up but he didn't question it. His eyes were getting heavy.
"Hey."
"MK?"
MK sat up. "Huh?"
Red Son let out a chuckle, MK had dozed off for a couple minutes and only just now had Red noticed. He found it adorable.
"Sorry to wake you, but you shouldn't fall asleep and possibly be an idiot by hit the hard floor." Red teased, smirking at the brunette with the red ribbon.
MK rolled his eyes and leaned back, hands behind his head comfortably, tail swaying on one side of him, eventually resting across his stomach. Red stared for a moment, but after a moment of contemplating he sighed and laid back beside him.
"Sky's pretty ain't it?"
Red hummed, noticing just how pretty it actually was. He loved it. Stars shining, even shooting stars ran across the sky then disappeared. He had heard a myth once where if you wished when it happened, it'd come true, so he wished. He wished his family would become better.
It wasn't long later till MK pointed up at the sky and started going on about a constellation, only to never get an answer from Red Son. He looked over to see his eyes closed, asleep.
He looked peaceful.
MK smiled.
The brunette placed a hand down inbetween them, his tail slowly reaching over and grabbing the wrist of Red Son. It didn't move it, but it held on. MK was too scared to do it himself, tail deciding to do it anyway. It was like it had a mind of it's own. His hand went right back hnder his head with a yawn.
MK had wished too.
He wished for Red Son, not himself.
The tip of his tail tightened around Red's wrist, but soon loosened as the boy fell asleep as well, next to the other. Peacefully, together, till the sun rose.
