The courting began and men that were prepared physically, mentally and financially for marriage, left their homes every morning to visit the girls they wish to engage or woo. Meanwhile, Princess Mayah had the highest rate of suitors, visitation.

"My princess, here is a rose flower I got for you. I pray you love it!" Lord Colton said as he knelt down on one kneel.

"Thank you! It is beautiful!" Princess Mayah said with a smile.

Lord Colton looked handsome and his manner seemed calm. He was of an average height and nicely dressed.

"My pleasure, my princess!" He said and stood to his feet.

"Please, have a seat! The maiden will get you a drink soon." Princess Mayah said and looked away.

"My princess!" He grabbed her beautiful small hands like they were his greatest treasure, "Your beauty is really charming. No man can resist you! I must complimented." He added.

Amber a royal maid and a friend of Princess Mayah, walked over with a small tray and on it, there was a cup of pure wine. Amber handed the cup but mistakenly it poured down on Lord Colton and some of it touched Princess Mayah's grey gown.

"I am so sorry!" Amber knelt down begging, as she shiver in fear of what she had done.

"Amber it is..." Princess Mayah was interrupted.

"How dare you?" Lord Colton asked with a change of voice and his right hand lifted up. Before Princess Mayah would understand what just happened, Lord Colton gave Amber a hot slap and her face turned red immediately. The poor lady was almost in tears and Princess Mayah could not bear it anymore.

"You dare to slap my maid?" Princess Mayah yelled but still her voice was tiny.

"She poured..." Lord Colton could not finish his statement.

Princess Mayah stood up from her seat with anger. The more tears rolled down Amber eyes, the more she got furious.

"Amber you can go!" Princess Mayah ordered and turned at Lord Colton, "Get out of my house before I call on the guards to throw you out." She said.

Queen Evelyn came in and was shocked to see how Princess Mayah ordered Lord Colton to leave.

"I am sorry but I wanted..."

"Get out!" Princess Mayah yelled.

Queen Evelyn walked up to her daughter, "Mayah, what is the problem? Why do you make such a fuss?"

"He slapped Amber!" Princess Mayah answered pointing at Amber who stood at a place sobbing.

"So? She is a maid, Mayah!" Queen Evelyn said as if to remind her daughter.

"Mum, she is a maid but it was a mistake of which she apologized for. She has feelings too and how can I stay with someone who can quickly raise his hand on a woman? She is a maid but a woman. He slapped a woman without having a second thought." Princess Mayah exploded.

"She is a maid! He won't do that to you!" Queen Evelyn replied, defending Lord Colton who was lone gone and Princess Mayah frowned.

"He won't hurt me because I am a princess and if I am not, he would hit me? Mum, are you seriously saying this? I can not believe this is how desperate you want a groom. But I can never marry a man who beats woman." Princess Mayah said angrily and walked out.

Queen Evelyn retired Amber and sat down to think. Somehow, Mayah was right but still, Mayah need to be engage soon.

Many hard working men, warriors and other noble bachlors, all came as suitors, to seek Mayah's attention but she rejected them. She first accepted pleasantries but at their back, she said awful things about them. Like Lord Alfred; Son of the great knight Lucky, she complained he had big tommy and ate like a pig.

"Did you see how he ate the cookies? It made him look like a real pig. It was embarrassing and I do not like his appearance too mamma!" Mayah complained to her mother, Queen Evelyn. And Mayah's personal maiden, Lily, tried to contain herself but could not help letting out a stifled laugh.

The Queen turned at Lily and she apologized.

"Do not say that, child! He wanted to be free around you. I am sure he loves you." Queen Evelyn replied and Princess Mayah turned to her mother.

"It shows he lacks eating manners and that can not be used to refer to as love. I do not see the spark of love in his eyes." Princess Mayah said, "Mother I do not wish to have them as my husband." she added.

Queen Evelyn was scared of her daughter's attitude towards suitors and feared for her future. Mayah on the other hand, cared less!

Soon, news spread like a contagious disease all over the kingdom, that a maiden with the name Marian; the second beauty of the season, was engaged to a noble. The unexpected spreading news got to the ears of Queen Evelyn and it made her heart bleed. Mayah her daughter was the most beautiful and well mannered than any maiden but she was yet to be engaged.

Months later, the season came to end but it did not stop suitors from visiting Princess Mayah. Princes from other kingdoms was not left behind. And Marian got married to Lord Lincoln, a noble young man from a well respected home, yet Princess Mayah was not disturbed but attended the wedding with a bold smile, though Marian made mockery of Princess Mayah.

"My princess!" Marian called out to Princess Mayah and she turned.

"My dear Marian, I am delight to see you in your wedding gown, looking so beautiful. I pray for your marriage!" Princess Mayah said.

"Thank you! I heard you are not engage yet!" Marina said with a little increase in the her voice, so as to call attention and it worked.

Most persons close, that overheard what Mirana said, make a mockery face.

"I thought she is our princess, how come she is still single while others are getting married."

"Ha ha ha, the season gem indeed!"

"She is beautiful but her beauty can not make a man propose marriage to her. What a pity!" One woman said with disgust.

"I heard the judges cheated and Marina is the one suppose to be crowned the gem of the season but since she is not royalty, no one bothered and gave it to a royalty. Even my daughter is more beautiful than Princess Mayah." A woman whispered to her group friends and they chuckled.

"I am not engaged because I rejected them. I can not love a man I can live with, I need a man I can not live without. You won't understand that because you are more interested in getting married before the season comes to an end. Let me ask you? How well do you know the man you just said yes to at the alter?" Princess Mayah asked with her right brow raised. She talked in a way those who gossiped her will hear and everyone got speechless.

Marian looked so vex but soon suppressed it and tried to defend herself from getting embarrassed.

"Yes, I do know him well!" Marian replied and smiled.

"I am sure you do! Please I have other important individuals to say hello to. My carriage will be here soon." Princess said and turned to leave, she looked at the gossipers behind her with total disgust and rolled her eyes.

Princess Mayah did everything so calmly that one would doubt if she was angry or just wanted to claim.

"She did that to cover the fact that she was hurt. Marian is married and she the gem of the season is still single at the end of the season.

Princess Mayah overheard them as she walked away but she did not mind. Their words has no effect on her; she knew exactly what she wanted.
