the library

Endless shelves all around
My head is swirling, so many to choose
The plethora of hardback and paperbound
Some so old the pages are browned
I wonder how these authors all found their muse

Each so interesting, every cover, every book
I passed two people playing chess
One just took the other's rook
There are several books in my arm's crook
The librarian slowly walked by in her green dress

I checked my watch, noticing I'd been here awhile
With all these choices, how could I make up my mind?
It feels as though I've walked an enjoyable mile
Turning the corner, I begin to smile
Eying a book that is definitely one of a kind
