Miranda Bonham

I didn't know what time it was. I was in the lowest level of the building, so I couldn't tell whether it was still dark outside or if the sun had come up already.

My Wolf would've known the time, but she had gone away. She was within me, but she kept to herself, hiding in a dark part of my mind.

The last few hours had gone by in a blur. I only knew that everything hurt. My body ached. My Wolf had shifted several times without me having a say in it.

I wasn't able to control it. I didn't want to control it. I wanted her to take over. I didn't want to feel the void that was left in my chest. Nixon hadn't returned.

I shouldn't have expected for him to come back but a part of me had remained hopeful. No guards had gone down to see me either.

I was partly glad about that. The green minty dress I'd been wearing had ripped when I shifted the first time.

I was using the largest piece of the dress to cover myself from the cold. I was surprised when I heard the sound of the elevator. The same guard who had locked up my cell the previous day was heading my way.

He still had that apologetic look in his eyes. He was carrying a duffel bag over his shoulder. When he realized I was looking at him, he lowered his gaze to the ground.

I felt embarrassed to be locked up in the cell, completely naked except for the pieces of dress I was using to cover my body.

"My Queen," he said, bowing at me respectfully.

"You don't have to do that," I managed to croak out.

My throat hurt and my voice sounded horrid. I'd been crying so much and it had tired me out. I didn't even want to imagine how I must've looked.

"I do, you're still my queen," he said.

The warm smile he offered me only brought tears to my eyes. He opened up the barred cell door and settled the duffel bag in the floor.
