Miranda Bonham

"You must be Miranda," King Luther said.

"Your majesty?" The words sounded like a question.

I was surprised when the King laughed.

"You can call me Luther."

"Alright," I replied, nodding at him once.

He was as tall as Nixon, and had a similar complexion as him. Now that I had finally met the king, I could see where a lot of Nixon's features came from.

Yes, he looked a lot like his mother. Having the king in front of me though- it made me realize that Nixon got most of his physical traits from him.

I was well aware that he was a king, he was in charge of fourteen packs, and he ran an entire kingdom of Werewolves. Everything about that- it was intimidating.

"Take a seat, please," Luther said, motioning with his hands to the black leather couches in his large study.

I looked at Nixon for approval. When he nodded at me, I sat down.

The king was smiling at me, but it wasnít a warm smile. His intense gaze seemed to be penetrating into deeper parts of my mind. I felt exposed in his presence- yet all he was doing was staring at me.

"Have you been settling in well?" He asked.

He'd taken a seat in front of Nixon and me. Nixon's hand was over my thigh. He told me he'd try to help me through his father's questioning, and I had to do well.

His father knew that I had to stay- that wouldnít be the problem. There were many ways Luther could make our lives harder than they already were.

"I have. Nixon's been really helpful," I replied, and I turned to smile at my mate- who was looking pleased so far.

Nixon had opened his mind connection with me. If I said anything that I wasn't supposed to, he'd tell me so that I could backtrack.

"I'm happy to hear that. I heard you didn't want to be here?" It was a blunt question, and I was expected to answer.

"I was never taught about mates. I didn't know there was a kingdom or an Island just for Werewolves," I replied honestly.

"Yes, I'm aware of that now. I wish I'd intervened sooner. I knew long ago that Craven would do something like this. It's a shame all those Wolves- you included- had to live without everything The Island has to offer. Perhaps Nixon might have found you sooner," Luther said, giving me a warm smile.

I was surprised that he was capable of that. He seemed so cold.
