Couldn't Get Anymore Worse (20)

The rest of the day was pretty much a blur. I didn't see Kyle again after that, and after school I searched the parking lot with my eyes. His car was gone. After I had walked away from him earlier, I had spent a good twenty minutes in the bathroom trying to calm myself down, hence the reason why I was about ten minutes late to my next class. All I could think about was how Kyle had acted like a different person. What happened? What went wrong? Why?

I took in a shaky breath as I pulled out my phone to dial my dad's number. I was leaning casually up against the front of the school, not paying attention to all of the other kids lingering about and getting into cars.

I was slightly surprised to instantly hear my dad's voicemail.

"What the hell?" I muttered, confused as to why my dad would have his phone off. I mean, sure his work hours were a little random considering he worked as a twenty four hour psychologist- he told me some of his patients preferred their sessions at night- but his schedule is usually predictable or he tells my mother and I when he has a new client or when he rescheduled.

    "You look depressed."

I looked up in surprise to see Jay standing several feet away with a cigarette dangling from his lips. I glanced around, completely shocked as to why Jay, the guy that I work with, was on school campus. Specifically, my school campus.

"Uh, I'm sorry, what are you doing here?"

He looked amused as he inhaled, then puffed out smoke from one side of his mouth. I barely caught myself from scrunching up my face in disgust.

"What do you mean? I go here."

My jaw slackened. "No you don't."

    "I do, dumbass."

I clenched my fists at my sides, fed up with the conversation already. "Is there a reason why you're talking to me then?"

He shrugged. "I was bored. I saw you standing here looking like a sad puppy so I came over."

I rolled my eyes. "Okay, well as you can see, I'm not in the best mood. So if you'll excuse me-"

    "You need a ride?"

I stopped mid-step and turned to look at him. "I'm sorry?"

He looked extremely annoyed at my response as he flicked his cigarette away. "I said, do you need a ride? You seem to be waiting, and from the looks of iit, your ride bailed on you."

"Why are you offering me a ride? You barely know me."

He smirked at me. "Can't you tell I'm a sweet guy?"

I scoffed. As I opened my mouth to speak, an unfamiliar and feminine voice reached our ears.

"Jay, quit harassing her. From the look on her face, I'm surprised you don't have a bloody nose."

I turned to see a petite brown- haired girl that I vaguely recognized. When our eyes connected, she grinned  I remembered her as the girl that had smiled at me the day Kyle and me announced we were "dating."

Jay glared at her, but I could see the hidden affection behind his gaze. "Whatever. She loves me like every girl in the human race does."

"Keep dreaming," she exclaimed before fully turning to me and sticking out her hand, "Name's Bree. Pleasure to meet you, Abigail."

    "How-"

"How do I know your name? Well, you're a legend to me. You're the girl who slapped the shit out of Phoebe Anderson." I held back a smile at her enthusiasm, but at the mention of Phoebe, Kyle began to swarm my thoughts.

"And aren't you dating Kyle James? The new kid that's kind of hot?"

"Hey," Jay growled and wrapped his arms possessively around Bree from behind. She rolled her eyes playfully before returning her attention to me.

    "Uh-"

"Okay, enough of the interrogation. You want a ride or not Ashley?"

    "Abigail."

"Whatever."

And that's how I experienced my first car ride with two fairly interesting people named Jay and Bree.

Finally an update that's long overdue. Almost 5 months. Not even sure if people read this, and if they do they'll read the new chapter since I've been gone so long. Later~
