The nights were getting colder and the days shorter. That meant that winter was coming, and so was Robin's birthday.

She had long stopped being excited for the day when she turned one year older again. But still, every year Hershel insisted on celebrating it, so every year she obliged. One of the few good things about the apocalypse was that there probably wouldn't be a party this time.

Robin didn't even look down when cutting the cucumber before her into thin slices. The sharp blade of the knife barely missed her fingertips by inches, but it was the least of her worries right now. Truthfully, her birthday seemed like a pathetic problem as well—she was staring out the kitchen window at the group of people that had gathered outside the barn in the distance.

They were too far away for Robin to be able to tell who exactly they were, but she didn't need to see their faces or defining features to know that it was Rick's group. Glenn must have told them about the Walkers in the barn.

Robin didn't register Beth entering the kitchen until the young girl asked, "Robin, are you okay?"

She flinched, startled by Beth's sudden appearance—the blade finally cut into her skin, but only shortly before Robin dropped it, jumping away from the counter. She hissed in pain and shook her head as if that would make the pain go away.

Beth immediately hurried to the first aid kit that hung by the fridge. She grabbed a band aid and handed it to the woman she considered her sister. "I'm sorry."

Robin shook her head. "It's not your fault—I was distracted."

She only briefly looked at the blonde before looking back out the window. Beth frowned and got on her tiptoes to be able to look past the curtain. Her eyes widened a little. "What are they doing down there?" she asked.

"They know about the–" Robin stopped. Though she could openly talk to Maggie about how she didn't think the Walkers were still alive because she knew that Maggie could take it, Robin had to be careful around Beth. She was more fragile than her sister. So, Robin cleared her throat and murmured, "They know about Shawn and Annette and all the other... sick people in the barn."
