Lilly P.O.V

I spent the rest of that day in bed watching Netflix on my iPad. I later found out that Goodie to shoes doctor left me a packet of antacid tablets on my side table. I took a few and I could feel my stomach getting better. I hated that he cared about me and I was actually beginning to feel guilty. Well  up until later than evening when mom came to my room to blew it all up.

" Hey dear ,can we talk? "

She said with her head peeking at my door. I knew her asking was a formality and she was gonna let herself in and talk to me regardless.

" Yeah sure, come in!"

I replied in a bored unfazed tone, eighty percent of my attention still glued on Netflix.

" So look ahhmm ,well. So Vic is handsome isn't he?"

Her tone was funny and I didn't know weather she was asking or in a matter of fact telling me. That made me curious enough to pause my show and actually focus on her

" What you on about?"

She gave back a wide creepy smile that made me feel so uneasy, the strong scent her Shea Butter body scrub hitting my nostrils hard as she shifter closer to me.

" So I was thinking that maybe it's about time you got married perhaps.?!"

Again I wasn't sure weather she was asking or telling me. I didn't answer her though.

"Look he's a good boy, good career and he's family already adores you so you know , he'll make a great husband".

I looked at her waiting for her to laugh and say it's a joke. She couldn't have been serious since she knew I didn't like him at all.

"So , what do you think?"

"Mom stop it! NO, HELL NO"

I could hear the wheels turning in her head. She was thinking of a comeback, what to say next that could convince me that he was the right man for me.

" Why, tell me why !"

I could think of a billion reasons why but I was in no mood to argue with her so I lied to her thinking she would drop the subject and never bring it up again.

"Because I met someone else mom and we are serious, very serious".

She looked at me suspiciously probably sensing that it was all a lie.

" Well forget about who ever that is, Derecks family is coming over tomorrow for dinner and I expect you to look your best for your future in-laws. Understand!"

She said in the most commanding tone like I was one of her many employees.

" Mom no! I mean it, I don't want him!."

"GROW UP! We need them to secure the future of the company. It's for everyone's best. You will be his wife and that's final"

I looked at her disbelief probably plastered all over my pretty face. I could not believe what I was hearing. I knew she always wanted us to be together but I never imagined it could get this far.

" Well wake up tomorrow and go shopping, you need to wear something nice for the dinner, look I know it won't be easy but he's a good boy I've known him since he was born."

I found it funny that she  actually thought knowing him well would change how I felt about him.

" Mom can we talk about this tomorrow, please I need to take a rest. I promise we'll talk over breakfast ok!"

I was lying through my pearly whites  and surprisingly she actually bought it. I almost felt guilty, but I didn't.

" Ok my love I'll leave you for know, promise you'll wake up early because we need to hit the mall then come back and prepare for dinner."

" Promise" I replied with a fake smile painted all over my face. It was the one thing I knew I was actually really good at.

No one....
and I mean NO ONE!!

could pull a fake smile like me.

I was the Picasso of Bitchiness. A Mozart of counterfeit smiles and tears. Even my own mother could not best me at that.

Mother finally left my room and went to sleep and I got up and packed my weekend bag at first my intentions were to only bring necessities but like always I ended up throwing the bag away and packing a small suitcase with clothes that would probably last the average clear thinking person at least a month.

After packing I called Yolanda and told her to meet me tomorrow morning at 4am because I was treating her to a luxury "girls trip" to some 5 star Hotel in Zanzibar. She didn't hesitate  not bother herself by asking questions since she was a freeloader by nature.  And that's the one thing I loved about her, she never asked about my emotions, thoughts or family. I don't think she ever cared, so she was like a pet for me. Always there to keep me company in return I payed her bill everywhere we went.

It was sad but I preferred it that way. It worked for us because it's what I needed.

So I woke up the next morning at  3:30, quickly got dressed in my black Gucci sweats along with matching Gucci sneakers and sneaked out and practically ran to Yolanda's car.

I was gone and I knew Mother was gonna be fuming  with anger when she finds out and I would be long gone by then.
