"Good! But you need more polishing," Miss Lyla said. We have been rehearsing for our upcoming ballet recital at January 17, five more days till the big day. It was called Sleeping Beauty. I got the role of the Lilac Fairy.
"Next!" She snapped her fingers to signify that the next solo would play.
The music started and I immediately recognized it, Fairy of the Golden Vine. Rose, my best friend, got that role. Watching her doing it makes me feel proud. I'm her senior though, we're two years apart. But I'm glad that we clicked.
After a few more dances, our rehearsal came to an end and we were to go home. At the dressing room, I was changing to my casual clothes until Joana, my rival, walked towards me.
"Love the dance," She said with her stoic face.
"Thanks," I replied quietly.
"But I don't like the dancer," She continued.
I ignored her insult, since I was pretty used to hearing them. She went back to her friends and whispered something to them. They kept laughing and pointing at me. Whatever.
"Vivianne!" Miss Luna called for me. "I need to talk to you." She motioned for me to come.
"Ooooooh! Freak's in trouble!" Joana snickered.
I went to her office and she motioned for me to sit down. Oh my gosh, what did I do?
"Viv, you are one of my top students, and our next recital will be Swan Lake," She smiled as I nodded."I want you to take the lead role." She suddenly turned serious.
"W-what?" I could hardly contain my excitement.
"You need to lose 10 pounds in the next month, understood?"
"Yes ma'am! Thank you!"
"Off you go."

I went home to see my mom washing the dishes.
"How was ballet?" She says.
"Great! Mom there's good news!" I say.
"What is it honey?" She turned around.
"We're having another recital, Swan Lake, and I get the lead role!" I said, squealing.
"Oh! I'm so proud of you sweetie..." She said, pulling me in for a hug.
"I forgot, dad will be coming late, emergency meeting," She said before I went up to my room.
I looked at the calendar outside my room, oh no. First day of high school. I have to suffer the pain of being alone again! Being new. Gosh, how I hate mondays. I have no other friends except Rose. And besides, she lives far from my house. So I am always alone, always bullied, always depressed. Yes, I am a nerd too. Why do people hate nerds? We're freakin' human too! At least I don't look like one, I don't have glasses.
I stare at the ceiling in the dark, trying to imagine the worst that will happen tomorrow.
