Gulf felt the man holding him pull away suddenly and that was when he realized it wasn't a dream. He was summoned back from the depths of slumber with a terrible swiftness. It was a horrible way to wake up. Gulf was stretched out beside Bright, his yukata dishelved and his lower body shamefully exposed.

"Mister Bright!" Gulf gapsed, and felt the blood drain his body. "Wait---stop, please!"

"Huh?"

"I'm sorry. I-I didn't know. I was half asleep."

What had he done? Gulf was disoriented by the sudden turn in events. He was quickly approaching panic. He pushed Bright off with all his strength and for the first time, Bright's surprise seemed to clear into understanding.

"I'm sorry, Mister Gulf," Bright said in quiet apology. "I wanted to kiss you so much and..."

Gulf was pulling the two sides of his yukata together. He could only bow his head with embarrassment.

"I'm sorry. I was way out of line." Bright said.

"No---I apologize to you. I was drunk and did some stupid things." Gulf found it impressive that he managed to move his dry tongue and lips enough to speak.

"I think I let myself get a little carried away, too." Bright said.

Gulf felt extremely uncomfortable having a younger man apologizing so fervently to him. Bright had made the first move, but Gulf couldn't ignore the fact that he had been the one to escalate it from an innocent kiss. It wasn't right for Bright to apologize to him.

"I've wanted to get to know you better for a long time, Mister Gulf. I'm gay."

That sudden confession rendered Gulf speechless. He had no idea how to respond to it. Bright said the words so easily, but they were serious.

"It didn't even occur to me that I could have been wrong about you. I got cocky."

Gulf found the sincerity of Bright's apology painful. Responding physically the way he had to Bright's kiss, Gulf felt he had given Bright an invitation. It was no wonder Bright had gotten the wrong idea.

"I really am sorry," Gulf said, feeling more miserable than embarrassed. He was pathetic.

"No, I knew how drunk you were. But don't worry, I'm not the kind of creep who'd try to force someone to do something when they're drunk."

It was hard for Gulf to lower his guard against a man who had confessed to being gay. But he knew he had no choice except to trust him, so Gulf relaxed and sat up in his futon. Some semblance of calm had returned, but his interrupted passion lingered still inside his body. Gulf squeezed his eyes shut as he sat on top of the futon, trying to make it dissipate.

"Are you all right?" Bright asked.

"...Yes."

"Can I do anything for you?" Bright whispered, kneeling behind Gulf.

Gulf noticed a sexual nuance in Bright's words, and he felt a trembling tingle of desire in the core of his body.

"No---I'm fine, really."

"I don't mind being compared to Mew Suppasit."

Those words were all it took to freeze Gulf's body in a tense shock of surprise.

"You've got the wrong idea! I'm not involved with him in that way!"

"I can't believe you, Mister Gulf. You're sleeping with Mew Suppasit, aren't you?"

Bright's straightforward words were empty of blame and more effective than the longest diatribe. They were especially effective for a person like Gulf, who was more afraid of his relationship with Mew being made public than anything else.
