ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END

prologue

it was a cold winter night when she last spoke to him. that night, her whole world had turned upside down, and it wasn't for the better. she vividly remembered the exact words he said to her, before she ultimately lost him. she lost her best friend that day.

minah and heeseung had known each other ever since they could remember. their moms were close to each other, which was the reason a friendship had blossomed between their kids as well.

the two went to school together, from elementary school to middle school and all through high school, went on play dates together and told each other everything. nothing, not even their own family could break them apart if they wanted to.

that was before everything fell apart.

it was a stupid story really. they were so young. only seventeen. too young to even understand certain things. they were only stupid teenagers. everything went perfectly, until he decided to call it quits. seventeen years of friendship down the drain. and for what?

"i'm sorry minnie, but i can't see you anymore. she doesn't want me to."

that was it. those were the last words he said to her, before ultimately deciding to end everything between them. that sentence was all it took to break apart a lifetime friendship. better said, some girl was all it took to break something so special. it was funny how things could change in the blink of an eye.

maybe it was for the better though. heeseung was practically a social butterfly while she had a hard time opening up to people. she didn't blame him though. he was a very likable person, which was the cause of his popularity from elementary school all through high school. he was the only reason people liked minah.

however, now that she didn't have him by her side, that all changed. the way people acted towards her, cast her aside and left her to figure everything out on her own.

but as said before, maybe it was for the better. finally seeing everyone's true self. they never liked her for her. they liked her so they could get close to him. maybe this loss was a gain as well. a lesson to be careful who you should stick around with.

after their ended friendship, minah had blocked heeseung on everything and avoided him at all cost. she was left behind by everyone, and turned into an outcast.

shortly after the event, her parents announced to her that they would be moving to canada for business. her older sister was outraged when she heard that she would be pulled away from her life in seoul, but minah saw it as an out. she could finally leave everyone behind like they did to her.

fast forward four years, minah hadn't seen heeseung ever since she and her family moved to canada. she finished high school there and moved back to seoul to go to college.

she was now twentyone years old and had already completed two years of college. living on her own in her dorm and not having many friends, she found herself to be a bit of an outcast. she didn't really belong to any groups, nor did she want to.

at least that's what she told herself to make herself feel better about the fact that she wasn't one to socialize with others. at least not anymore. instead she just put up a cold act and pretended to be tough, to hide the fact that she just couldn't do it all on her own.

the truth was, minah needed someone to rely on. but heeseung was the reason she couldn't do that. he showed her that even though something that seemed so stable and secure, was just as fragile as glass.

it was hard for her to accept the fact that the only reliable thing she had was taken from her, but eventually she learned to cope with it.

her life, as it was right now, wasn't too bad. though she didn't really make friends that easily, due to this cold act of hers, she still had some of those who didn't leave her after heeseung did. with those friends, she was content enough. she was finally becoming a little more comfortable with the people around her.

but all good things must come to an end.
