It was beautiful.
The soft breeze that caressed his skin and hair made him feel alive again. The soft, dew-drenched grass gave him a clean, moist feeling that transported him to memories of the cold rains of his earliest childhood.
All this was like a dream.
And the moment he saw the majesty of the vibrant city in front of him, he felt his heart beating a thousand per hour. He felt like he was going to explode from the happiness of finally being back where he belonged.
The cherry on top of the cake was watching as all of New York began to be invaded by the golden rays of the morning sun.
With a deep sigh he welcomed the refreshing clean air of dawn, letting all his tension and sadness be washed away by the new world he was experiencing.
With a big smile he let his back drop to the soft grass of the forest. Finally being embraced by nature and freedom.
As he enjoyed his new home, a few feet away from him stood the other teenagers. Watching in confusion at the gecko's behavior.
"Ehh... Is he okay?" asked the purple one, puzzled by the scene in front of them.
"I think he's better than ever" Mikey said, looking down at his friend on the ground with a smile.
The box turtle began to walk calmly towards the boy, and then stopped right next to him.
"Is this how you imagined it?" Michaelangelo asked as he sat down next to the gecko, not taking his eyes off the city in front of them.
"No... It's much better" answered the boy as he sat down in his place, to accompany the younger one to appreciate the sunrise.
Everything he was experiencing in those moments, was much better than what he remembered in his, dim, childhood memories. It was so much better than all the dreams he had had in that old port container.
It was better than he had ever imagined.
Both teenagers gazed in awe at the already brightly lit and bustling urbe, and the fresh shadows of the pine leaves that covered them.
"Okay okay, enough with the cheesiness. Let's get serious" interrupted the leader, receiving a slightly annoyed look from Michelangelo and a slight blush from the gecko.
"We must find a place to hide your friend. No doubt those guys are going to look for him to finish what they started" he said while indicating what was left of the gecko's tail.
"How about he staying with us?" Mikey proposed, totally excited, as he hugged the confused boy next to him.
"We can have pizza parties, play video games and skateboard on our ramp. And if you want, I can share my room with him. Can he stay, Leo? Can he?"
Mikey asked, his eyes totally glowing, trying to convince his older brother, as if adopting a pet. While he hugged his friend with inordinate force, causing the boy to stick out his tongue when squeezed him with such force.
"Oh no no no no. We're not taking the lizard to the lair. I don't want any more roomies, not after what we went through with Bullhop... Definitely not, Michael" exclaimed the blue one, as he flatly denied the younger one.
"But, Leo" The younger one looked at him sadly as he received the disapproval of the older one, since he would really like the gecko to live with them.
"Calm down, Mikey" said the gecko, and then released from his hug, "You need your space. Besides, I don't think it's a good idea for me to stay" said the gecko.
