Y/N and Claudia made their way through the castle, walking in silence as they thought about the prisoner in the dungeon. One was thinking about how to possibly free the prisoner, while the other wondered what her father would think if he found out that she had shown Y/N the prisoner. Neither one felt particularly relaxed with the situation, and so they silently agreed to not say anything as they made their way through the castle.

But just as they were about to enter Lord Viren's chambers to take the secret path that would lead down to his private dungeons, one of the castle guards called to them. "Lady Y/N!"

Y/N sighed and turned to face the guard. "What is it?"

"General Amaya requests your presence in the courtyard before her departure."

Y/N nodded and turned back to Claudia. Runaan would have to wait for now. "I'll see you later."

Claudia nodded, somewhat relieved that she wouldn't have to take Y/N to see the prisoner. At least now she wouldn't have to worry about her father's possible anger at revealing the prisoner to Y/N. She knew that her father wasn't entirely crazy about Y/N, though Claudia didn't quite understand why. Y/N had always been a great friend to her and a trusted friend of the royal family, and yet she had lost count of how many times her father had tried to persuade her to befriend other mages in the kingdom. Not that there were any.

"I've sent word to Corvus that King Harrow has passed," Gren said, speaking once again for Amaya.

Y/N had been summoned to the courtyard by Commander Gren after Gren and Amaya had returned from the Valley of Kings where Queen Sarai's statue stood. Amaya was departing for the breach to make sure that it remained secure, while Gren and Y/N would remain behind.

"Is Lord Viren aware that Corvus has been tracking the princes," one of the guards asked.

"No. Do not trust Viren. It may be a month from now, it may be a year, but he will stab you in the back."

Amaya pressed her finger against Gren's lips to signal him not to translate what he was saying. Then, she turned to Y/N and gave her a small smile as she started to sign. Remain behind, Y/N. I do not trust Viren, and I need you to keep an eye on him for the time being until there are any further developments.

Y/N nodded and signed back to the general. Of course, General Amaya. I shall report to you if there are any changes.

Amaya smiled and turned to Gren. Y/N averted her eyes as Amaya signed something privately to Gren. This wasn't for her to watch. Once the two had finished speaking, Amaya gave Gren a tight squeeze before moving to Y/N to do the same. Y/N hugged the general back and watched with her hands folded behind her back as Amaya and the rest of her forces from the breach readied themselves to depart. As Amaya hopped up onto her horse, Lord Viren and Soren arrived in the courtyard to see the knights off.

"I expect to be notified when the princes are found. And safe," Amaya said, speaking through Gren.

"Of course." Viren and Soren bowed to the general. "I'll send word to the breach immediately."

Satisfied, Amaya motioned for the rest of the guards to follow her out of the courtyard. And a second later, the courtyard was empty, save for Viren, Soren, Gren, and Y/N. She stood there for a moment longer before turning to go, heading back up to the castle.

She hadn't failed to notice the tension that had formed between her and Claudia when she had asked Claudia to show her Runaan, so she wouldn't ask again. But she would have to find a way to sneak into Viren's chambers without alerting Viren that she knew about the prisoner, or that she knew where he was. She knew that he wouldn't be down in the dungeons with all the other prisoners. Most likely he would be down in the few dungeon cells in his secret chamber. She had noticed then when she and Claudia had ventured into the dungeons, following Ezran, Callum, and Rayla.
