Catherine walked over to Tess who was sitting at her desk.
"I just talked to Ward and..."
Catherine looked at Tess who was staring into space.
"Hello. Tess?"
Tess jolted.
"Sorry, what?"
Catherine laughed.
"Right. You're staring into space so either that means that you're heartbroken or made up. Which is it?"
Tess smiled.
"JT and I said that we love each other"
"That's great."
"Yeah and he's meeting my parents this Saturday."
"Oooo not so great."
"No, it is. He told me that he wouldn't bail on me like guys normally do. So, what were you going to tell me?"
"Right, yes. I just talked to Ward and he says that we can't make a move on Brian because we haven't got enough evidence."
"Okay. What about this abandoned building that Slyvia went to?"
"Ward says that he needs to get a warrant to search it and that could take a while."
Tess got up and started to walk away.
"Tess, where are you going?"
"The abandoned building."
"Did you not here what I just said? We haven't got a warrant."
Tess smiled.
"Come on Cat. When has that stopped us before?"
"I know, but Ward said that he was warned about us going off without permission so if we go to this building, he'll suspend us."
Tess walked back to her desk and sulked.
"Captain bloody Ward."
Catherine laughed.
"I know. Someone telling us what to do."
"Why don't you call Vincent and ask him to check the place out?"
"Really? And what's going to happen if Vincent finds something and we take it to Ward? He'll know that somethings off."
"We' ll just say that Vincent got curious. He can't suspend us for that."
"I'm Vincent's girlfriend. Ward's going to know that I put him up to it."
Tess sighed.
"Cat, when have we ever played by the rules?"
"Okay. You've made your point. I'll call Vincent."
Catherine put her hand into her pocket, took out her phone and called Vincent.
"Hello again," said Vincent.
"Hi. I'm afraid that I have another favour to ask you."
"Two favours in two days. What is it?"
"We talked to Slyvia, the woman who owned the purse. She said that her husband, Brian, asked her to pick up a bag from an abandoned building and put it in a dumpster by the grocery store. We haven't got enough to bring in the husband and we haven't got a warrant to search the building."
"So? That hasn't stopped you before."
"I know, but Ward has threatened us with suspension if we don't go by the book with this one."
"You want me to go and check out this building."
"Yes, I do. I'll owe you. Twice."
"Okay. What's the address?"
"Thank you. I'll text it you. Be careful, Vincent."
"Always."
The phone cut off.
"Is he going to do it?" asked Tess.
"Yeah. I've just text him the address."
"Now what?"
"We wait."
