" He's a what?" Minhyuk asked in confusion, looking at a new person standing before him.
The man was wearing a white polo and grey knitted vest with baby pink hearts on them, even his tie have a big crystal pink heart pinned at the middle, his white shorts that reaches just above his knees was paired with a hot pink belt. He was holding a golden bow with exquisite design and a bunch of arrows strapped on his back.
" A matchmaker " the man replied with a toothy grin, too happy and bright for Minhyuk's newly dead self.
"That's a thing?"
The matchmaker looked offended for a short second before his smile went back on his face. "Of course! We handle human connections!" He took two arrows from his back and showed it to him. " I shot people with my arrows to seal their connections, silver for platonic and gold for romantic."
" Oh, so you're like cupid! Interesting" Minhyuk says, touching one of the arrows in fascination. The only matchmakers he knew are those so called shamans and fortune tellers that claims to have abilities to find someone's perfect match.
" What's a cupid? "
"That baby in a pillow case with bows and arrows. He's popular around the second month of the year for some reason. Two centuries and still know nothing..." Chae answers, muttering the last part to himself, looking at his nails as though he was bored.
"You mean February? That's Valentines. Month of love"
" Month of love? The headquarters never organized such a thing. All months are love months!" Hoseok, the name the matchmaker called himself, argues, finding Minhyuk's words ridiculous. Upset that after all these years, humans are not giving them their hard earned credit.
The grim reaper ignored the two's exchange, snorting as he turned to look at Hoseok an idea coming to mind " Hey, why don't you dress like one? You can go twinning. Maybe then your hard work would be appreciated " He teased with a smirk, which was clearly only a front to hide the silly wide grin that wanted to come out of him.
Hoseok's eyebrows furrowed and he pouted. He playfully hit Chae's arm which the grim reaper only laughs at, finally letting a wide smile be on his face. Minhyuk watched them a little amused. It was weird seeing them joke around, especially knowing what they are. Chae doesn't seem too grim to be a grim reaper, not even the first time he met him. Maybe afterlife isn't as bad as he thought.
" Hop on, we're almost delayed, they might not let you in if we're late"
Minhyuk snap out of his thoughts and look at Chae. Late? For what? Does heaven have time schedules for acceptance? First come first serve? If you don't come on time you go to hell?
The grim reaper was not explaining things thoroughly. Shouldn't he be telling him things since he's his guide? it seems like he isn't the best at his job. Somehow, it made Minhyuk a little nervous.
"What happens if we're late? Do I go to hell?" Minhyuk asks, peeking through the little window of the palaquin.
Chae gave a questioning look, a liitle confused. Then it seemed to finally click on him. He answered " There's only afterlife, you go to judgement and they give you what you deserve "
"Which could be?"
" Most probably reincarnation, how well and comfortable it would be depends on how you lived your previous life"
"Some becomes like us! " Hoseok chirps in, peeking at the little window too, pushing the other out the frame in the process. The grim reaper effortlessly steadied himself after being pushed.
" Wonnie and I lived human lives before, just like you" Hoseok says, answering the question inside Minhyuk's head and creating another one.
"Wonnie?" He asked, looking at Hyungwon who now bears a grumpy face. He thought he's name was Chae. Now that he thinks about it, Chae sounds like a korean last name. Then it must be his last name then. Chae Wonnie? That's a funny sounding name for a grim reaper.
