Chapter VI
Grady POV
Nalu walked off towards where the group set up camp. I turned to where he had left Nashi. The Dragon Slayer sat quietly with the air around her giving off a more upset feeling than before. The weird, dog, snowman, thing..... I think she called it Plue, sat on the ground looking up at her. I sighed. What an idiot.
I walked over to the little rock on the cliffside. Nashi didn't seem to notice me and kept her head down. I kept quiet. Why? No clue. It just felt right. In truth this was none of my business. It shouldn't matter to me what she was thinking. Nalu is the one that should be here, but he already failed. And I did care that she was feeling like this.
"I thought I told you to leave me alone," Nashi mumbled into her arms. I smiled.
"No, you told Nalu that."
"Fish Boy?" She kept her head down while her voice sounded surprised. I sat down next to her on the ground. Plue wandered over to me. It looked like he was shaking a little bit. He just kept looking at me like he expected me to do something. "What do you want?"
"I want to know what's wrong," she kept quiet. "I know what happened in Magnolia was not exactly the best outcome we wanted, but you can't just beat yourself up about it. Your mom wouldn't want that........Remember Mira's storytelling when we were younger. Everytime the Carriers would hold a town inspection, Mira gathered us all up and told us about the guild to calm our nerves. I think you loved those stories more than any of us. Not once, in any of her stories did the guild give up hope, so we shouldn't either. Don't let what happened stop you. We need you, ok. I ne-"
I had to stop. Nashi was looking straight at me with tears running down her face. I hadn't noticed that she was crying this whole time. Without thinking, I leaned over and held her closer to me.
"What are yo-" I tightened my arms when she started to speak. It took her a minute before she finally broke down. Her arms wrapped themselves behind me as she cried into my shoulder.
Plue was even hugging her leg to help.
We stayed like that for a while. Nashi had felt a lot of pain, and it just kept building up, so it was natural for it to take her a while to let it all out. I remained there the whole time. Holding her as she would cry and mumble to herself. It baffled me how her brother could have failed at something so simple as consoling his sister as she cried.
After some time, Nashi stopped and pulled herself away. Her eyes were completely red from tears. "Better?" I asked. Nashi nodded, and I sighed in relief. "That's good." I stood up and started to leave. She still needed time to be by herself.
"O-Oi! Fish Boy!" I stopped to look over my shoulder. Nashi was now standing and her face face was flustered like she was worrying about something. "Forget what you saw, ok! I wasn't crying! Got that!" I smirked.
"I'll remember what I want to remember, Flame Brain!" With that, I left Nashi on the cliff.
Nashi POV
My onyx eyes scanned the night sky. I had rejoined the group a few minutes after Grady left. They didn't say anything about me storming off instead they just smiled and acted like everything was ok. I guess that's why I love these guys so much. The only weird one out was Grady. The twins had kept picking on him about something, and Gruvia clung onto his leg exhaustedly. That's about when we all decided to call it a night.
I turned on my side with my head still spinning over the long day, and I was still frustrated that Grady, out of all people, had to see me cry. I've never even let Nalu see that side of me, and it just continued to anger me that the Fish Boy saw it........but he didn't make fun of me either.
