Chapter IV

Nalu POV

I gazed out the window watching everyone rush outside. Nashi was in the front with an excited smile on her face. She started to get ahead of the group. Grady grabbed the back of her shirt pulling her back to the others. This caused them to get into another argument. I smiled at them. It was nice to know I could trust him to look after my sister. If something happened to her, I'd.....I'd.........

"I still can't believe you let them go," I tore my eyes from the window and glanced behind me. Lira was standing without her usual grin. It was somewhat unsettling.

"I can't stop them from wanting to see what it's like out there. Besides, I'm not the only one that said ok." Lira shifted to her other foot and looked away.

"Yeah, Mom encouraged it. She told me that they weren't kids anymore...... well, except for Gruvia." My eyes shifted back to the scene outside. The twins were now trying to stop Grady and Nashi. It was actually pretty funny.

I felt something against my back. I closed my eyes knowing it had to be Lira. We always leaned back to back when we were being very serious.

"The funny thing is, now that everyone else is going, so do I."

They finally had stopped arguing, and everybody was walking out towards the city. I thought about what Lira just said. The words hanging heavily in my mind.

"Yeah."

Gale POV

"This is it, everyone! Magnolia!" Nashi outstretched her hands beholding the city. I peered out from behind her.

The place was dead quiet. People were spread out on the road fast asleep. There was garbage everywhere. Nobody made any eye contact, and when they did, they glared at them with pure disgust. What a dump.

Nashi didn't pay any attention and kept walking. She was no longer smiling or talking. She was wearing the same face as everyone else. I furrowed my eyebrows and tapped on her shoulder.

"Um, is everything ok?" She didn't turn around.

"Yeah, everything's good. Just try to act like everyone else. You won't stand out that way," I glanced at the rest of our group. They were already following Nashi's example. The usual close twins were putting quite a distance between each other and not saying a word. What scared me, was Gruvia. Her face was ice cold like there was no life in it whatsoever. Who knew we were all such good actors?

I did the same thing, and it worked. Not a single person ever caught on. I felt a bit proud of myself for being able to put up such a good charade.

"That's what you get! You wizard scum!"

Our group's eyes darted over to the commotion. A couple of guys were standing over a person in a cloak. The person was on the ground, and the guys guys were grouped around kicking him. Moans of pain escaped the poor person.

"Nashi," I warned looking at her. Her charade had melted away and was glaring at the guys. I reached out to grab her shoulder before she could even start anything. Another hand stopped mine. I looked back and saw Grady shaking his head. What were they thinking?!

"Hey, check it out dude, it's a woman." Oh, god no.

"What? Really? Let me see!" Just stop already if you knew better.

"Ew, she's old, completely useless. Might as well kill her." The one guy rose his hand that gripped a magic canceling staff. I looked away. He sure did it now.

"Get the hell away from her!" Nashi screamed. She darted towards the guys with her fist balled and on fire. I slapped my forehead. Guess that means our cover is blown.
