Chapter I

"Goodnight, Nashi," Mira smiled as she turned out the light. Nashi stared at the woman through the dark. The light from the hallway reflected off her white hair, making her appear angelic. Even in her age, Nashi managed to feel somewhat jealous of her beauty.

Mira started to slowly close the door. Nashi watched until her eyes widened as she remembered something. The young girl sat up instantly. "Auntie Mira!"

She stopped and looked at Nashi, waiting to hear what if is she wanted to say. Nashi looked back down at her hands as they twisted her bed sheet. "Tonight.....Nalu will make it back safe, right?" Her brown eyes stared back up at Mira full of concern for her older brother. The angelic woman's eyes softened.

She didn't say anything for awhile, and that made Nashi's heart sink. Her brother was the only family member she had. He knew how she thought, and even what she would do next. She knew she could live on her own, but Nashi wasn't so sure about him. He acted like the responsible big brother he wanted to be, but Nashi knew the truth. Without everyone, he would never make it. He would break down. That's why Nashi always tried to be with him. To keep him safe when he was trying to do the same for her.

"He will," Mira smiled slightly like she truly believed he would make it back. Nashi smiled back and waited for the door to close.

Once she heard the click of the door closing, she held her breath and listened. She listened to another click coming from the door. Nashi smiled. Tumblers, she thought, Nice try, Auntie Mira, but locking the door won't do any good. She waited as the sound of footsteps made their way away from the door.

Once everything was silent, Nashi threw the covers off her and, quietly, jumped off the bed. She tiptoed through the darkness towards the door. Her hand grabbed the knob and jiggled it to see if it was really locked. It was. Nashi shook her head in disappointment. She couldn't believe Mira would be so naive. Her legs extended to allow her to stand. She reached her arm to the top of the doorframe and searched with her fingers for her homemade lock pick.

Nashi froze then slapped herself on the forehead. Damn it, of course it's gone. Mira probably found it and took it. She sighed then crouched back down staring at the lock. She bit her lip not wanting to use her last option, but she had no other choice.

She stretched out her hand still hesitant. Soon in an instant, her hand arrupted into flame. The fire danced around her finger tips, but it didn't hurt, naturally. A smirk came to her face as she slowly sat the fire right next to the lock. It was a moment in a time, for the lock to have melted.

"Yes," Nashi yelled quietly. The fire had died down, and she lightly pushed the door open. The hallway appeared empty and was lit up. Nashi's smile grew even wider at how well she was doing.

"Don't even think about it," her body stiffened at the sound of the voice. It was familiar, and one she would hear on a daily basis.

Nashi sighed and turned towards the voice. A small girl with shaggy black hair was leaning against the wall and was staring at her. Her red eyes piercing at her, but Nashi knew better. "Geez, Gale, don't do that. I honestly thought I was in trouble for a second."

Gale raised an eyebrow at her friend's remark. "Are you saying that I can't cause you trouble?" She kept her straight face trying to act all serious, but it only made Nashi smile more.

"Now Gale, you know I love ya and all, but seriously," her smile faded and a serious one took it's place, "we both know what would happen, and I don't ever want to hurt you."

Gale's seriousness turned into a small smile. She was happy to hear that Nashi actually didn't want anything to happen to her. She sighed. "Still, stop this now. No one here wants to hear that you got caught."
