( 9 ) Overgrown Conurbation

Blue and Purple lights shone in the perpetual darkness of a street engulfed in moss and small colored flowers. The path was crested with now mossy bricks, small colourful plants growing out of them. The ocean and grape colored lights came from a couple, stranded in the urban area, following the path in hopes of finding a place to properly stay in.

"Crap, i think we took a wrong turn..."

"...I don't like this place..."

"Stay as close to me as you can."

Walking down the street, they passed several buildings coated in moss and plants. Many colourful shrubs glowed in the dark night, iridescent lights exposing the rest of the pathing. It was mesmerizing, yet uncanny.

They found a small, abandoned coffee shop. Perfect.

"Seems like this is our best choice for the night..."

They cautiously entered the overgrown local, the counter and cozy, retro-style decorations specked with glistening wildflowers and mold. Hajay slept on the floor right behind the counter, whilst Dansuki sat on one of the stools and laid her arms and head on the counter, staring at the glowing flora, deep in thought.

It was a passionflower, glowing a bright azure, growing on a padding of moss along with a few birdbill dayflowers, also emitting faint glows.

How was it growing on the moss? Hajay told her that passiflora incarnata flowers grow in thickets as wildflowers, whilst commelina dianthifolia flowers are perennial herbs.

Perhaps it was faulty handiwork from the gods.

With all those thoughts swirling in her head, she fell asleep before she even knew it.

The next day rolled around, and Dansuki woke up. She got off from the stool and went behind the counter to check on Hajay. Noticing he was still asleep, she kneeled down to him and gently shook him awake.

"It's morning time, 'Jay."

"Mmuh....Give me another minute..."

"C'mon, sleepyhead! We've got another day ahead of us!"

"Right..."

Hajay stretched and got up, fixing his spiky hair. The couple exited the bar from the back, and took another road. Maybe then they could reach a favourable destination.

As the sun rose, the blue, oddly rustic lanterns dangling on the curved signposts on the road reflected their azure reflection on the road, shining a pattern of azure moons and jags. The small moss patches coated with forget-me-nots and birdbill dayflowers faintly shone in the morning sky.

The small apartment complexes that lined up the road were covered in vegetation of various kinds, some of the buildings having worn down 'for sale' listings, and others having posters for various ads, like a concert tour for a rainbow-themed band that never existed in the first place, or an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring exclusively Korean cuisine.

The couple took a detour that seemed to take them to a more 'populated' part of town. They came across bigger houses specked with mold and ivies that somehow grew colourful morning glories on them. Small decorations hanged on the entrances to the houses, such as wind chimes, small stained glass decorations, teru teru bozu or even rainbow-colored flag garlands with small flower patterns, all specked with tiny flowers growing out of them. Blue and red-colored koinobori flew in the wind, despite Children's Day having passed a while ago. More faulty handiwork from the gods.

Walking through the town, the couple noticed small and colourful polygonal animals like foxes and bunnies having made their homes in small parts of the mold and flower-specked houses. Hearing the steps of the pair they retreated back to their hand-made dens.

Going deeper into the conurbation, they saw oddly-shaped apartment complexes towering over the skies, with several flags and ornaments swaying in the wind. The buildings were almost Escherian in nature. Traffic lights flickered, scattered all over the streets.

In the center, there was a glass dome with parts of it covered in moss and colourful flowers. It seemed like small saplings were growing from it too. The iridescent, almost crystalline plants swayed gently in the wind, almost like a delicate dance.

Dansuki and Hajay walked around the desolate complex, looking over the ruined yet abstract vista.

The wind blew calmly, the soft sound of wind chimes being heard in the distance.

Hand in hand, Dansuki and Hajay walked across the center road, marching under the glistening morning sun.
