14. Nervous

Roni's pov
"Did you see max when you came in?" I ask Tobie.

"No he's out, your dad said something about a game or a club?" He says confused.

I start laughing uncontrollably. "Am I supposed to know what you find so funny?" Tobie asks.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry" I say catching my breath. "It's just that my brother has 0 capacity to join a sport or a club, my dads trying to make him sound way more interesting than he is. What he means is he's at a friends playing videos games"

"Not your father trying to be a good wing man" yaz says making us all burst into laughter.

"Wait" tobie says. "He's made a friend?"

I smile. "Yea when I wasn't talking to anyone he would come in here and update me on what's been going on and he told me about a boy that had reached out. This boy was never mean to us but I think he was afraid to be Max's friend because of how hated we are" Tobie smiles and says "he didn't tell me that"

I sigh. "Max and i are the same when it comes to new people, we don't get our hopes up unless we know they'll stick around".

"I think that's another reason I didn't know you guys were talking until like a month later" I continue.

"That makes sense" Tobie says.
"I think we're all getting to that age where drama starts to become less important, at least i hope so. I always had yaz even tho there was so much distance but max...max had me and that was it."

Silence washes over the room until joe speaks up "Where is our food it's been like an hour at this point" i look at my phone and see that it's 2 blocks away. "They're almost here so I'll go down and get it" i say getting up "I'm coming with you" bash says running up to my side.

"You don't have to feel guilty for having a friend, you know that don't you?" Bash asks while we're making around way down the stairs. "No i know i just..." I pause and stop walking.

"I just hate that he didn't have anyone else, we had each other but he didn't have at least one other person like I did." Bash puts a hand of my shoulder and says "that's not your burden to carry" I don't get the chance to say anything else before the door bell rings.

I open the door handing half of the food to bash who runs upstairs with it. I go to shut the door before I see Max's car pull up and him getting out quickly.

"Hey! I'm so glad to see you up and alive... I hope you ordered extr- Roni why do you have enough food for 3 people" he says confused.

"Follow me and find out" he follows me up the stairs and when i open the door I can see everyone sitting on the ground getting into the food that bash brought up. I also see my MacBook open with a very cute blonde on it smiling at me.

"Hi, kit" he smiles "hi, Roni"

"Kit?" Max says fuming, I almost forgot that I have max behind me who has no idea what's going on in my room because he can't see into it.

I quickly run in and shut the door. "Roni what the hell" I hear from the other side "hold on" i yell.

I set the food down for my friends to eat and look over at Tobie who's frozen in place with a fry sticking out of his mouth.

"Eat the fry" I tell him and he does. I grab a napkin wipe his mouth putting my hands on his shoulder and say "ready" he shakes his head "no" "good now go" i push his towards the door only for him to not open it. I get up and open it hiding behind the door.

Max turns around and starts to blush almost immediately. Tobie doesn't move so I push him out and before anyone says anything max engulfs him in the most beautiful hug I've ever seen him give.
