Recap:
"Nice serve!" the crowd cheered when it was Suna's turn to serve. He waited for the referee to give the signal and immediately served the ball over, catching his opponents off guard.
Fortunately for them, Daichi managed to receive it albeit sloppily. "Sorry! That was a bit long!" he announced and Kageyama went into his position by the net anyways. Instead of setting, he rebounded the ball off of Omimi's hand to give his team another chance.
Noya passed the ball back to Kageyama and Hinata ran up to the net before suddenly stopping in his tracks and sprinting to the side and jumped high.
"Hinata Shoyo ran out and got the point! That's the Karasuno first-year duo's famous slide attack!"
(Y/n) blinked a couple of times in amazement, "So that's the quick, huh?"
On with Chapter 13:
3RD PERSON POV
It was Kageyama's turn to serve the ball and the Inarizaki crowd started booing. Unfortunately for them, he seemed to be unaffected by the jeer.
Despite being on the opposite side of the court, (Y/n) sighed in relief. Yeah she loved the team and her school, but sometimes they can just be unbearable.
The spectators quickly changed up their methods and began hitting their drums and noisemakers to create a tempo. The public noticed and followed them as well by clapping along the beat.
Looking at Kageyama, it seemed like the tempo wasn't affecting him at all as he positioned himself for the serve. When the referee blew the whistle for the serve to start, the Inarizaki band fastened the beats for every second that had passed.
THWACK
Kageyama hit the ball over but it hit the net before dropping over to Inarizaki's side. Akagi dived to receive and passed it to the back. Atsumu quickly went under the ball and set a quick to Omimi, who scored the point.
"Nice kill, Ren! Jump, jump, Ren! One, more, time!"
Kageyama was seen clicking his tongue as his own performance during his serve. He tried to show that he wasn't affected by their tactics, but unfortunately for him, it didn't work.
"Where the middle blocker scores the point, the middle scores right back. Neither side is letting up."
Since Inarizaki scored the last point, Osamu went to the back of the court for his turn to serve the ball. When the referee blew the whistle to start serving, he waited for the time to run out, unlike Suna.
Karasuno's libero, Nishinoya, still managed to receive the ball and Tanaka followed up by scoring a point. Their supporters cheered from the stands but they immediately got overpowered by the Inarizaki supporters cheering "Cut them right off, Ina High!"
It was Tanaka's turn to serve and his opponents did the tempo again. They cheered when Tanaka messed up the serve by hitting the ball into the net.
(Y/n) sighed. The pressure isn't obvious, but before you know it, they're setting the rhythm...
...
"Inarizaki High's managed their second service ace already this match. The difference in their scores just keeps growing."
Aran had scored a service ace against Karasuno and the score now was 7-4, Inarizaki leading. Karasuno's advisor decided to take a timeout and both teams went back to their sides for a short break.
(Y/n) did her manager duties by giving out the players their water bottle and towels when they wanted it.
"Atsumu..." the coach called while the setter was drinking, "That first serve of yours was a bit off." the man was surprised at being called out, "Did you let the cheering squad distract you?"
Atsumu got embarrassed and turned his head away to hide it, but Osamu and Aran had already seen it and smirked at his reaction, which he then got annoyed at.
(Y/n) sighed at their behaviour but smiled nonetheless. They never change after all these years... 'Still idiots...' she thought before hearing the beating of drums, different from their own marching band's.
Looking to where the music came from, Karasuno's spectator stands now had a group of taiko drummers positioned in between the cheer groups along with some flute players. <i am not knowledgeable in this> Somehow, they were overtaking Inarizaki's own loud music.
Great timing for them since the timeout had just ended and the referee blew his whistle to call the players back to the court.
"Nice serve!" the supporters cheered before Aran served the ball over.
Tanaka received the ball and passed it to Kageyama, who set the ball to Hinata and scored a point. It all happened so fast, Karasuno had gotten a point before one could blink.
Without much delay, Hinata did the next serve while both team's supporters played the drums. With all the buildup, it became anti-climatic when the short middle block did a normal serve. Though, he did get the ball over the net.
Aran received the ball with ease and sent it over to Atsumu. Omimi and Ginjima ran up to the net at the same time for a double quick.
The ball went to Ginjima's side and, due to Karasuno's blockers, he was forced to hit a straight towards Hinata. But... he received the ball with his foot?
A "pfft-" was heard during the silence when everyone was confused at his action. The silence prolonged when the game continued without the referee interrupting it. "The ball hasn't touched the ground. It bounced off his foot." (Y/n) explained to her coach after recovering from her silent laugh at the now embarrassed first year.
Speaking of which, Hinata snapped out of his embarrassment and ran up to the net and the Inarizaki blockers targeted him. Instead, the ball was set to their captain who scored the point for them.
"I honestly thought the toss was going to Hinata Shoyo again!"
"Maybe Inarizaki is watching Hinata-kun a little too closely. I can't say I blame them, though."
"Looks like Karasuno's getting back into a rhythm!"
...
At some point, Inarizaki had scored a point against their opponents and had gained back the opportunity to serve. When Atsumu was heading to the serving line, (Y/n) had noticed the Karasuno players observing his steps intensely and moved back when they noticed he was aiming to do a jump serve. "Looks like they figured out Tsumu's habit before serving." she pointed out to her coach, "Not like it matters anyway..."
As she said that, Atsumu threw the ball in the air and served the ball hard and quick, almost hitting Nishinoya in the face if he wasn't half a second faster.
"It's just the beginning."
