Aran's words echoed in her mind as she watched Atsumu do a difficult low overhand set to Osamu who then scored for the team.
...
They've really grown.
On with Chapter 22:
3RD PERSON POV
Heisuke was called back to the bench as he was given a second chance. He held the card with Suna's jersey on it tensed up every time Atsumu made a play. He lowered his gaze to the ground.
The coach sitting beside him noticed the behaviour and said, "Even the best team in the world would lose if they kept doing the same thing. We haven't even become the best in Japan yeet. If we keep holding onto yesterday, what are we going to be tomorrow?" Heisuke didn't know what to answer, so he just sat there, thinking. "You just need one thing. Challenge yourself today."
He then signaled to the referee about a player substitution and Heisuke soon entered the court. He took the ball from the referee and went to the back of the court to serve.
"Nice serve!" the crowd cheered.
He threw the ball up, jumped, and served the ball.
"Service Ace!" the manager couldn't contain her excitement and cheered alongside the spectators.
"Nice serve, Heisuke! Go, go, Heisuke! One more time!"
"Unlike his stint in the second set, Riseki Heisuke let loose a tremendous serve!"
Everyone supporting Inarizaki cheered, and everyone who know Heisuke personally cheered even louder.
The result of his service ace had caused Karasuno to take a time out.
"Karasuno HIgh's Coach Ukai is trying to cut things off quickly!"
Taking a quick break, the players went back onto the court and Heisuke went back to the serving line with the ball in hand.
"After a time out, it's Riseki's turn to serve again. Can he keep up his concentration?"
Heisuke sent another serve towards Karasuno and this time, Tanaka received it. However, it bounced far and headed back to Inarizaki's side, but Aran didn't wait for it to be received and instead spiked the ball down the moment it crossed the net, not giving his opponents time to think.
"That serve threw them off, and then... Ojiro Aran nails it! That was intense!"
Once again, people cheered for the Ace for his play.
"And instantly, Inarizaki is right on Karasuno's tail." the announcer said as the score went up to 11-11.
Heisuke did another serve, but this time Karasuno managed to receive it and score a point for themselves instead, so he was subbed back out with Suna but not before getting a pat on the back by the coaches and managers.
He then went back to the reserved players and all of them, especially Kita, looked proud of him compared to his previous performance. The captain even clapped for him too.
The interaction wasn't missed by the manager though, as she smiled at the cute interaction they had.
...
During Osamu's serve, Tanaka spiked the ball over, but got blocked by Omimi and Atsumu's blocking. Omimi shifted his hand at the last second and managed to shut down the spike, earning a point for the team.
"He stopped it! Tanaka Ryunosuke's been on a roll since the end of the first set, but he was just stopped in his tracks!"
The play happened so suddenly that (Y/n) barely had any time to think before the team earned the point.
"Looks like third-year Omimi-kun just shut down the course that kept getting by them."
"Inarizaki didn't just catch up! They managed to turn this around and take the lead."
The referee then blew the whistle, "Inarizak just scored the 13th point, which marks the half point, so the teams will now switch sides. It seems like first-year Riseki's serve turbocharged Inarizaki."
"Of course, confident serves like that are powerful, but they also put pressure on their opponents, while giving their own team a boost of encouragement. It's pretty hard to get them right, though."
"Will Karasuno High be able to stop Inarizaki's momentum?"
While the players moved to the opposite courts, the coaches and managers picked up their items before heading to the other side as well.
"Ah, oh no.." (Y/n) seemed to be struggling carrying all of the players items all by herself. The coaches had already walked ahead of her and the players were too.
"Oh no.." she muttered under her breath as another item fell out of her hands.
"(Y/n)-senpai."
She looked up to see that it was Ginjima standing beside her. He was holding out a towel that had fallen from the pile in her arms. "Ah." he said when he realized the predicament.
"Let me help." he then began taking pieces by pieces out of the manager's hands and walked away when he had enough.
"...Eh?" (Y/n) was left stunned as she watched the second-year walk away with her items. She looked down at her own arms and saw that only less than half was left. Despite being confused, she didn't have time to stand there any longer as she realized Karasuno was heading her way.
...
"That was a difficult shot, but Kageyama managed to get it back over, aiming right for their setter, Miya Atsumu!"
Kageyama had done the last hit but Atsumu saved it which sparked another problem, who would be setting?
"But Inarizaki has... Miya Osamu!"
Of course, it would be the setter's twin brother setting the ball, and it was back to the setter himself who then spiked the ball onto Karasuno's court.
"That was a set from the spiker Miya Osamu to the setter Miya Atsumu! They just dealt with a minute tempo quick! The Miya twins are a terrifying duo!"
(Y/n) wrote down a couple of lines on her notes before cheering for her brothers' play, despite sensing that it might have been a fluke. Despite that, it had made Karasuno shocked at the play and the twins pumped up. They high-fived, "But it was too low and a bit short." Atsumu bluntly stated in the middle of celebrating.
"Stop being picky! I'm not a setter!"
"I think we might actually be able to pull off a Sky Love Hurricane now!"
"A what?" (Y/n) heard the last part.
"Sure, you get to be at the bottom."
"Huh?! You're at the bottom, you dimwit!"
Listening in on her brothers' argument, she sweatdropped, "..What are they even talking about?"
