On the first of October, 1988, a girl by the name of Valerie Smith was born.  She slept throughout the day of her birth and would not wake up.  Valerie's mother,  Selene,  was concerned for her daughter's health,  but the doctors insisted she was fine.  That night,  not a single sound came from the sleeping infant,  and though she was breathing,  she didn't move nor vocalise.  Valeria's mother did not wake her daughter,  but this was not a wise choice..  the next morning,  the young woman went to check on her baby,  and see if she would wake up..  but she didn't..  she wasn't even sleeping..  her baby had died.  She called a doctor immediately to see if they had any idea what could've caused this,  but they just told her it was a case of SIDS.  Valerie's mother was absolutely distraught and held a funeral for her baby that week. 

The lonely Widow lived alone for months..  until she moved in with her loving sister, Petunia Smith.  Petunia lived in a mansion with her husband,  Jerald.  Petunia was barren and had no interest in adopting,  so she asked her sister Selene if she was mentally and physically okay to be a surrogate for her child.  Selene accepted her sister's request,  and 9 months later,  Natalie Smith was born.  Natalie did not pass away as a baby like her cousin did,  which made Selene feel incredibly relieved,  but also guilty for neglecting own baby.
