Six-year-old Vickie Pines walks into her mom's bedroom, terrified from a nightmare. As the door slowly creaks open, she walks in. "Mom?" she asks, meek and afraid.
No response.
She turns on the light and sees the body of her mom hanging from the ceiling by a sheet. Confused, Vickie walks up to her. "Mom? Are you alright?" she asks. No response again. Concerned, Vickie touches her mother, feeling only cold.
Something is up. She looks around and finds the corded phone on her mom's nightstand. She remembers her mom saying to dial 911 in an emergency. Her mom is not waking up, so this qualifies as an emergency.
"911. What's your emergency?" a woman says on the other line.
"Hi. My mom isn't waking up," she tells the operator.
"Oh. Sweetie, how old are you, and what's your name?" the operator asks.
"My name is Victoria Pines. I just turned six this year," she responds.
"Okay, Victoria. Where is your mom?" the operator asks in a soothing voice.
"She's hanging from the ceiling," Vickie tells her.
The operator pauses, knowing this poor girl has no idea what's going on. "Victoria? Honey? Stay on the phone with me please until the authorities arrive," she tells the kid. Triangulating the location of the call, she sends the police to the child.
Once the cops arrive, Vickie answers the door and one of them takes her to the station to get processed. They'll figure out who she is and if she has any living relatives.
They find only one.
An old man named Stanford Pines. Vickie's grandfather.
Vickie was just supposed to stay with Stanford until a foster family lined up to take care of her. Nobody came and Vickie became a bit of a recluse.
That's when Bill Cipher decided it was a good idea to take advantage of a child's weakness. "Hey, kid? Do you want a family? Spy on Gravity Falls for me and I'll give you one!" he promised her, never intending to keep up his end of the deal.
He found this kid special because he knew her mother. And he knew who she was.

It's been a couple of days after the zombie gnomes incident. Dipper has read the journal front-to-back at least six times, frustrated that it just ends. I asked to read it, but he has yet to give it to me.
Mabel and Dipper were currently holding a syrup pouring competition in the kitchen, so I stayed out of their way. Grandpa was digging for something in his room and Soos was here.
"Vickie!" I hear Dipper call for me and I enter the kitchen. He holds up a newspaper and shows me an ad.
"Monster photo contest, huh? Sounds like fun... but which monster do we take a photo of?" I ask and Dipper flips through the journal again, a bit distracted.
"Waaaaa. There's prize money! Like, a bajillion dollars!" Mabel exclaims, squealing.
"A thousand," Dipper corrects her, not looking up from the journal.
"Okay, a thousand. But I know what I'm gonna buy with my money!" she says and then goes silent, probably thinking about it.
"I want in on this," I grin.
