I watched as the twins got on a bus, waving out the back window goodbye. That'll be me in a couple of months... A couple more months of summer and I'm going to be with my Aunt Tiffany in Iowa with her new boyfriend, Jack.
The bus pulls away, slowly disappearing at sunrise. I hold back any yawn that might slip its way past my insomniac struggle to stay awake.
My grandpa stands off to my side, watching as Mabel and Dipper head home. Most likely, I will never see them again.
"Kid, I'm gonna be honest with you," my grandpa starts, "Even if I do get enough money to take care of the two of us, the government will see that I'm an old man and take you away from me regardless... This is going to be what's best for you."
"I understand," I nod, trying to picture what the rural state of Iowa is going to look like. I've never left Gravity Falls. I was born in Washington, the state, not the capital, but all I can remember is Gravity Falls.
"Go," he motions, "Go hang out with friends with the time you have left." I nod, giving him a quick hug before I head into town, finding Wendy and her friends at Greasy's Diner.
Tambry, Thompson, Wendy, and the other two were all enjoying a large stack of pancakes. They're all having a great time, so I won't bother them with my sulking. I go to the corner booth, but end up rolling my eyes at the large rat I found.
Robbie Valentino was sitting, peering over the edge of his seat to stare creepily at his ex-girlfriend. I flick his forehead, pulling him out of his love trance. "Dude, don't be a creeper," I glare at him.
"Ow," he rubs the spot on his head where I flicked him. I sit across from him, trying to figure out why this dude is even here. "What do you want?" he asked.
Rolling my eyes, I tell him, "Leave Wendy alone. If you truly care about her, you'd let her go." I watch as that sets in for a second. I flag down a waitress and she takes my order—a glass of water, which is free. I'm not about to run my grandpa's wallet drier than it already is.
"I... ugh. Whatever," he mumbles, staring out the window as the sun rises over the trees, peeking at us through the dirty glass panes. Lazy Susan needs to clean these windows.
I glance back at the emo boy, dyed hair covering one of his eyes to be edgy and his face covered in pimples. Didn't I use to have a crush on him when I was 12? "You need to wash your face," I tell him, a bit too bluntly and he slams his fist on the table in anger, a fork flying up into the air slightly, clanging loudly and making the whole diner look at us. Even Wendy.
"Now she knows I'm here, idiot!" he whisper-yells at me. I glance past his head toward the redheaded girl and she gives me a small grimace. I return the grimace, finding Robbie's griping very annoying.
Luckily, the nice waitress breaks the atmosphere and hands me my water. Robbie huffs, crossing his arms angrily as he slouches in his seat. "Look, dude. She doesn't like you like that anymore. You were kind of... a jerk?" I explain.
"Yeah, well what do you know, short stack?" he glares at me, standing up abruptly, face all flustered. "You probably never even had a boyfriend!" Then he runs away, leaving me alone in the corner booth. I finish my water slowly, taking my time and then I leave as well, ignoring Wendy, who was waving me over to her table.
I walk out, the bell on the door ringing as I leave, pacing myself as I watch the people of this sleepy little Oregon town. I hear a loud crash behind me, rigid, I turn around to face the sound.
My grandpa's car is smoking, hood smashed, pressed up against the lamp post nearby. "What the- " I mumble, walking up to him with a million questions on the tip of my tongue.
"No time for questions, hop in!" he demands, looking frantic.
As I open the passenger door, I find him in his... casual attire. "You better not be running from the law!" I glare as I enter the car.
"It's not like that, Vickie," he tells me as I buckle. As soon as he hears the click, he takes off again, not caring that his car is practically on fire.
"You gonna explain now?" I ask, hoping he will before he does whatever he feels that he needs to do.
He puts a Gideon pin in my hand. His stupid face stares right back up at me, a reminder that he took our home. "I've been getting some sort of frequency interference in my hearing aid all day. It's the stupid pins."
I crush it in my palm, revealing tiny machinery. "A camera?" I exclaim. "This means that Gideon is a fraud!" I conclude.
"Exactly, sweetie. You won't have to move out and you get to stay with me," he smiles. I smile back. This is literally the best thing that could happen to me.
"But what about the twins?" I ask, "They could already be halfway to California by now!"
"Oh, I doubt that," he says, pointing to the giant robot in the middle of the woods that looks like Gideon. His 300% larger counterpart looks like he is fighting someone. Something in me tells me it is Mabel and Dipper.
And they need all the help they can get.
"Hey, stop the car!" I urge my grandpa, who gives me a look of confusion, but follows anyway. As the car slows, I hurry to unbuckle, practically throwing myself out the door.
Grandpa reaches out, "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to go help them," I state, pointing to the cliff not too far off where they are dueling it out.
"Don't die," he teases.
"I won't,"
