The crowds screamed and cheered as the Gryffindor quidditch team, including me, flew our brooms onto the quidditch pitch and flew around the stadium going into our positions. It's the first week of November and today is our first quidditch match and it's against Slytherin.
Draco is the seeker on their team and Harry is on ours. I am one of the four chasers. I still haven't forgotten what Draco said to me that one night shift we had together. In fact, that's all I have been thinking about. It hasn't affected my studies in any way, though and I'm not planning on letting it distract me from my first-ever game of quidditch.
We haven't talked since the night and he even requested to Professor McGonagall that we switch partners for night shifts and she surprisingly agreed. I'm with Harry now but I'm not complaining. He even got Professor Snape to allow him to switch groups.
Madam Hooch realized the balls and blew the whistle, indicating the start of the game. The Gryffindor chasers got possession of the quaffle first. For a lot of the practices, we worked on throwing the ball far distances whilst the other three were playing defence, trying to capture the ball from us.
The four chasers, Dean Thomas, Angelina Johnson, Katie Bell and I were passing the quaffle back and forth, making sure the four chasers on the Slytherin team didn't get possession. Not long after, the ball was passed over to me and I threw it into the middle goalpost, scoring 10 points for Gryffindor. The stands cheered for us and the Slytherins groaned and booed.
Now the Slytherin team has possession of the quaffle. Luckily for us, they didn't know how to work as a team. After Fred Weasley hit a bludger at one of the Slytherin chasers, Angelina was fast enough to get the quaffle. She passed me the ball then suddenly someone shoved into me, almost knocking me off my broom, and making me drop the quaffle. I look to see who it was and it was Draco; he was trying to catch the snitch. That didn't excuse him for almost making me fall 20ft.
He hasn't said a word to me, hasn't even glanced at me and all of a sudden- "That's 10 points for Slytherin!" I heard from the commentator. Sh*t I thought to myself then looked at the scoreboard: 10-10. We're tied but Slytherin could still take the lead and maybe even the win.
"What was that?" I heard Dean Thomas yell at me. "You can't just stay there and watch Slytherin try and get a goal. If you aren't going to do anything then leave the team," He then said. "Don't talk to her like that!" I heard a familiar voice say. It was Harry. "She was just floating on her broom, watching Slytherin score a goal, she's useless!" Dean said angrily to Harry who flew over to him. "Y/n is not useless," He told him with anger in his voice.
I looked around the pitch and everyone stopped what they were doing and was looking at us. I saw Madam Hooch get on a broom and fly over to us.
"What seems to be the problem?" She asked. "It-It's really nothing," I told her. "That's not true, Dean is saying that y/n is useless because she just watched Slytherin score a goal instead of doing something," Harry told her. "Well then, it seems like Mr. Thomas forgets who scored the first goal for Gryffindor," She said with a smirk. "The game will continue on my whistle," Madam Hooch flew back on the ground then blew her whistle.
We were in possession of the quaffle. Katie Bell passed it to Angelina who passed it back to Katie then it went to Dean. I was wide open for a pass but he decided to go ahead and try to get a goal. He failed. The Slytherin keeper saved the shot. Harry and Draco were flying around the pitch attempting to catch the golden snitch.
The Slytherin chasers had the quaffle and weaved through our players and got another goal (which made the score 20-10) even when Fred and George hit bludgers at them. Our luck got even worse when Slytherin got another 10, 20, and thirty points, making the score 60-10. We really need that snitch.
