Seventh Chapter

Waking up, Elena let out a loud groan. Her neck hurt like hell, but that wasn't even on her top ten problems list. She soon enough realized she was tied up again, so she couldn't move her hands. Moaning, she tried to release herself with the help of her speacial vampire strenght, but for some reason she was just too weak. The loud clank was heard when she tried to move herself.

"Oh. Hello." Kai said drinking off his soda casually.

"Nice shirt," Elena commented taking a notice of him having the new shirt.

"Well, thanks. Yeah, somebody burned my other one. Which was awesome by the way."

Tilting her head to a side, she smiled ironically at Kai.

"I'm starting to see why Damon digs you. You are crazypants." He said, bulging his eyes out dramatically. "Oh, it sucks about that shirt, though." He mused, looking at the distance.

"So, you can care about an inanimate object but not the people that you kill?" Elena asked looking at him incredulously.

"Oh..." Kai sighed somewhat excited before he brought the soda can to his mouth again.

"Is this gonna be like an episode of "Ricki Lake" where I come face to face with my demons and change for the better?" He asked crouching down to her level.

Cocking his head to a side, his dark eyes narrowed as they looked curiously at Elena.

"Have you really not cared about anyone?" Elena questioned making Kai to slightly daze away as if he was digging deeply for some memory where he actually cared about someone.

"I guess I liked my brother Joey." Elena's look immediately softened at the mention of his brother. It gave her faith that Kai wasn't that hopeless after all.

"We played Dr. Mario together and he'd always win. Actually, one of my favorite memories is when I finally beat him." He paused, gently tapping with his fingers against the soda can in his hands. "Of course, my favorite memory is when I finally beat him to death."

Elena furrowed her eyes confused. She thought she was finally getting through him, but frankly that wasn't the case.

"You don't have to waste your energy trying to change me. If Ricki thought me anything is that liking yourself is the most important thing." He rasped, still holding his gaze somewhere in distance.
